Everything was working nicely. After upgrading the host to openSUSE-11.4 (via 'zypper dup') the system had several hard freezes after running for a while. Mostly only powercycling the machine would help. "A while" was either minutes or hours. The KVM guest systems weren't touched or upgraded. 'zypper dup' itself worked like a charm. Downgrading both the RPM packages for KVM and the kernel to the versions shipped with openSUSE-11.3 seems to have solved the problem. Only downgrading the KVM RPM, however, didn't help. I managed to salvage some information from syslog which hints at KVM being involved, but not all crashes produced information in the logs or on the console (see attachment). Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. start KVM guest processes on KVM host running vanilla openSUSE-11.4 2. use KVM guests and wait Actual Results: KVM host machine freezes. Mostly only powercycling helps. Expected Results: Nothing. Both KVM guest and host systems should continue running normally. All 4 KVM processes are started like this: /usr/bin/qemu-kvm -m 4096 -k en-us -drive file=/var/systems/system1/system1-system.qcow2,index=0,media=disk,if=virtio,boot=on -net
