https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=782911 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=782911#c0 Summary: About This Guide for Start-Up has dead link to documentation overview Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.2 Version: Final Platform: All OS/Version: openSUSE 12.2 Status: NEW Severity: Minor Priority: P5 - None Component: Documentation AssignedTo: ke@suse.com ReportedBy: kjetil@kilhavn.no QAContact: ke@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:15.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/15.0.1 In the openSUSE 12.2 documentation, the section About This Guide for the Start-Up document has a link to "an overview of the documentation available for your product and the latest documentation updates", but the URL it links to (http://www.suse.com/documentation/opensuse122) is not correct and leads to a "page not found" (404) error. The error occurs both in installed local documentation and online documentation (which is no surprise, they should be identical when the installed local documentation is kept updated from the Update repository. http://doc.opensuse.org/documentation/html/openSUSE/opensuse-startup/preface... file:///usr/share/doc/manual/opensuse-manuals_en/preface.startup.html Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open URL http://doc.opensuse.org/documentation/html/openSUSE/opensuse-startup/preface... 2. Click the link "http://www.suse.com/documentation/opensuse122" which you will find just above the heading "1. Available documentation" 3. The error occurs, page is not found Actual Results: Page not found error (HTTP 404) Expected Results: A page with an overview of available documentation should be displayed. I am not sure what the intention was, I have found several candidates for URLs, and there may be more. 1) https://www.suse.com/documentation/ 2) http://doc.opensuse.org/ 3) http://en.opensuse.org/Portal:Documentation I think the second option is the better of these as it (in my opinion) is the most relevant to the user's situation - reading openSUSE 12.2 documentation. The portal has more information, but it takes two clicks (and finding the "Official openSUSE documentation" link on the portal page first) to get to the 12.2 documentation. If the "Official openSUSE documentation" could be moved to the top of the portal page I would say that was the best link to use as it has the broadest coverage. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
