Basically the code checks if the next file has the same name, and if yes, it prints the "file listed twice" warning and skips the file. Later on it does the hardlink detection: if (flp->fl_nlink == 1 || !seenHardLink(&fl->files, flp, &fileid)) { totalFileSize += flp->fl_size; } Seen hardlink checks if some file before the current file has the same dev/ino. Because the file is listed twice, it will return true and not add the size! This is clearly a bug in rpm.
