Well, since the kernel does not seem to do the right thing in certain use
cases, perhaps it would be better to address that bug. But, does the above mean
that suse is the only distro rolling around with this change applied?
If that is the case, perhaps it would be possible to just reimpliment that
specific gnome-applet for suse??
As for a use case where the kernel doesn't set the appropriate freq, one
example is:
User launches media player to watch movie, it uses 100% cpu @ the lowest freq
and the freq jumps to the highest, it then stays at the highest freq for a few
minutes and reverts back to the lowest. In reality it seems logical that it
should stay at the highest freq, as when it goes back to the lowest it remains
there for most of the time.
My casual solution to that problem, since it causes movies to lag, is to use
cpufreq-set from the cpufreq-utils package to set the governor. If the above is
true perhaps cpufreq-utils should have also been disabled.
