Hi all. we still got the oS Weekly News misformatted, e.g.: http://news.opensuse.org/2011/07/10/opensuse-weekly-news-issue-183-is-out/ which looks quite ugly. First of all I would like to know if anyone is working on that? What is the reason that the layout breaks on the own? The rest of the posts look fine, so far. It would be great to get this fixed. If it's a simple CSS issue, I guess I could help. It would be a long story, if I explain the background why current HTML version of OWN doesn't look good, but in short: OWN are now primarily edited in DocBook/XML format and then converted to HTML and PDF files. The reason why the look of HTML of OWN isn't good may be that the script for generating HTML file from XML source isn't well polished yet and need to be improved, but ATM there isn't an expert at that in OWN team. And about issue #183 - Sascha had an network trouble last weekend and couldn't edit it so that I edited almost every part on behalf of him, but I'm not good at editing XML files and haven't well understood the mechanism of DocBook yet. Our options were, giving up publishing the issue or publishing it even if the look isn't good enough. And our choice was the latter because we thought 'it's always better than nothing'. If you don't like the result, your help for improving OWN will be always welcome. Please take a look at XML sources for OWN on BerliOS site first. https://developer.berlios.de/projects/osweeklynews/ Best, -- _/_/ Satoru Matsumoto - openSUSE Member - Japan _/_/ _/_/ Marketing/Weekly News/openFATE Screening Team _/_/ _/_/ mail: helios_reds_at_gmx.net / irc: HeliosReds _/_/ _/_/ http://blog.zaq.ne.jp/opensuse/ _/_/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-boosters+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-boosters+help@opensuse.org

I have checked again and noticed that the the stylesheet is missing: <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="susebooks.css" /><meta name="generator" content="DocBook XSL Stylesheets V1.76.1-RC1" /></head><body> I would suggest to place it in: news.opensuse.org/wp-content/themes/bento/ and modify the referral pointing to it. uhh, that's not much better :/
Maybe we can ask the guy who is working on the bento theme.
Could we make the rendered document make use of different style elements or is it easier to create a duplicate of bento for the books? Greets Marcus -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-boosters+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-boosters+help@opensuse.org

An option could also be to leave out all span elements in the rendered html. If only standard html elements are given (like h2, ul, ...) it should look fine without additional work. uhh, that's not much better :/ What exactly you dislike on susebooks.css? Its the css for docs.opensuse.org. I think...

Could we make the rendered document make use of different style elements or is it easier to create a duplicate of bento for the books? Hmm. You mean that we using bento.css instead susebooks.css? That sounds interesting. We can try it out. have you a copy of this?

Here you are: http://news.opensuse.org/wp-content/themes/bento/style.css But you have to name the elements according to the generated html output. As mentioned before, an option could be to generate un-span'ed html.
