Hi, I know this is a cup of tea which got a bit cool over time but: I can't get cursor routing to work on my machine : SuSE 9.1 PRO SBL 2.2-23 (FTP.ed from the 9.2 repository) kernel 2.6.5-7-145-default (updated by suse). Okay, I know you've got to deactivate UTF-8... So I tried changing the settings in /etc/sysconfig/language and /etc/sysconfig/keyboard accordingly and then run /sbin/SuSEconfig... However no matter what I do something overwrites my lc-variables. If any one knows the problem and has solved it I would be really thankful. Attached are my /etc/sysconfig files and the ouptut of locale run by root. Not necesarely. Try it the following way: 1. Open the file /etc/sysconfig/language 2. Modify the value for RC_LC_CTYPE: RC_LC_CTYPE="de_DE@euro" Or anny other setting that fits your needs... 3. Modify the value for RC_LANG: RC_LANG="de_DE.UTF-8" Or any other setting, that fits your needs... After this modifikations, execute SuSEconfig and restart the keyboard settings: rckbd restart If this doesn't solv your problems, I can sent you a newer sbl version that hasn't the problems. -- Gruss / Regards, Christian Schoepplein <schoeppi@suse.de> SUSE LINUX GmbH - SUSE-Blinux Support WWW: http://www.blinux.suse.de Phone: Germany: 0180 / 500 36 12 (12ct/min) Austria: 0820 / 500 781 (14,5ct/min) Switzerland: 0848 / 860 847
Hi, thanks for your reply. My /etc/sysconfig/language file already contains the said values. So there wasn't any change. As an attachement I send you the output of SuSEconfig. You already have my language file in the mailing list I guess. I noticed that I don't have a script rckbd in /etc/rc.d/ should there be one. # which rckbd returns /sbin/rckbd. That's strange isn't it? Thanks Jeronimo Sarioglou http://www.jsdo.de ____________________ | Langestrasse 83 | | D 44137 Dortmund | | +49 231 1347 583 | ____________________

Allthough it contains some warnings it looks OK. I can't found any entries that relate to your problem.

I'm not an expert for this questions but I think so.
# which rckbd returns /sbin/rckbd. That's strange isn't it?
Yes, it is. What are the results, if you try to execute this script? Is the cursor routing working? -- Gruss / Regards, Christian Schoepplein <schoeppi@suse.de> SUSE LINUX GmbH - SUSE-Blinux Support WWW: http://www.blinux.suse.de Phone: Germany: 0180 / 500 36 12 (12ct/min) Austria: 0820 / 500 781 (14,5ct/min) Switzerland: 0848 / 860 847
Hi Christian, hi all! well, if I execute /sbin/rckbd it does the following not enabling cursor routing: # rckbd see attachement. # file /sbin/rckbd returns symbolic link to /etc/rc.d/kbd which is bourne shell script text So I found the shell script. Executing it returns: Loading keymap qwerty/us.map.gz [1A..doneLoading compose table winkeys shiftctrl latin1.add..done Start Unicode mode [1A..doneLoading console font lat9w-16.psfu -u none -m none (K [1A..done Nothing particulary special. :( Same as the /sbin/rckbd command. I really run out of ideas. :( Regards, Jeronimo Sarioglou http://www.jsdo.de ____________________ | Langestrasse 83 | | D 44137 Dortmund | | +49 231 1347 583 | ____________________

Strange. As I've allready said before, I'm not an expert for this language and characterset things. But somehow it looks that yor system is broken. Thats really strange, I have never senn such things before :-8. [...]

I also have no more ideas. The last thing you could try is a newer sbl version that works with utf8. I could send it to you via PM. Is that OK? Have you compiled sbl by hand before (I could help you doing the right steps, its not difficult). -- Gruss / Regards, Christian Schoepplein <schoeppi@suse.de> SUSE LINUX GmbH - SUSE-Blinux Support WWW: http://www.blinux.suse.de Phone: Germany: 0180 / 500 36 12 (12ct/min) Austria: 0820 / 500 781 (14,5ct/min) Switzerland: 0848 / 860 847
Hi Christian, You say my system is broken? Hm, never saw any other problems. However, I remember having had an issue with my /etc directory but I had a backup copy. Perhaps some thing went wrong there. Well, a newer sbl (is there one newer than the one on 9.2?) would perhaps help. But I would be more interested in getting my system tidy and fixed up if it is broken. But if it is no issue just e-mail me the source of sbl. I always wanted to build sbl myself since I wanted to make it sutable for a boot diskette or something. Linking it statically and perhaps changing things so that it could be preconfigured would be very helpful for others too who attempt to set up a linux system using braille. Perhaps one could put it all on an initrd. I said, that it looks for me, that your system is broken somehow. But I also said, that I dont't know everything about linux. Some messages that are produced by your SuSEconfig look strange to me, but only to me and that menas nothing ;-).
Well, a newer sbl (is there one newer than the one on 9.2?) would perhaps help.
The newes sbl that I'm aware off, is 2.3b. I'll send you the sources via PM.

I fully agree. I also tried linking sbl staticly but without success. Please letz me know, if you have more luck ;-). -- Gruss / Regards, Christian Schoepplein <schoeppi@suse.de> SUSE LINUX GmbH - SUSE-Blinux Support WWW: http://www.blinux.suse.de Phone: Germany: 0180 / 500 36 12 (12ct/min) Austria: 0820 / 500 781 (14,5ct/min) Switzerland: 0848 / 860 847
