I'm trying to get the Knoppix linux-live-cd http://www.knopper.net/knoppix/ working with a Braille device, Papenmeier EL80, but I can't get the parameters right. Does anyone have any experiene with the use of Knoppix and a Braille device? I've also tried the SuSe 8.1 live cd, but I could not get the Papenmeier EL80 to work: it is recognised during boot, and I'm offered text-mode install, but there is no "life" in the Papenmeier EL80. Is there any special arguments that I should use when booting? I can only use such live-demo-cd, until I know if I can get the Papenmeier EL80 to work from boot with linux. FYI: the Papenmeier EL80 belongs to a 12 year old girl, and if I can get this to work with linux, then she will be able to use unknown things such as mail and internett. klaus GnuPG v1.0.6 Fingerprint=67E6 1D18 B2C4 4F8A 3DA3 5C6D 849F 9F5F 26FA 477D http://www.holmlia.gs.oslo.no

I've never used knopix...

Normaly you don't need any arguments. Its normal, that an textbased installation comes up, if a brailledevice is detected during booting into the setup. I've also never tryed the 8.1 Live-CD becouse there would be no sbl after the installation, the screenreader works only during the setup.

The el80 works definitly with suse-blinux. I know some people that use such a setup. So if the device is technicaly ok, there should be no problem to use this thing with a normal SuSE distro. Please explaine again and more detailed what heppens, if you boot the 8.1 Livecd. You wrote, that the textbased installation came up wich is a good sighn. But is there really no "live" on the brailledisplay during the installation, do the braillemodules realy not move? Or is the brailledisplay only after the installation, if you've booted into the installed system, not working?
