differences / description / experiences autoyast with suse9.1 ?
Hi List, Before I dip my toes into automatic installation with suse9.1, is there a description on the way? Are there many differences from 9.0 to 9.1? Has anybody tried it, yet? With what results? (Btw: It would be nice to see a page "things what changed from version x to version x+1" in the description - and if the description is updated, date + version number would come in handy.) thanks for any information, Hella -- Top 100 things you don't want the sysadmin to say: 60. The SuSE 9.0 templates work fine with 9.1 - the easiest way to find out about new features will be using the graphical autoyast gui. I suspect the documentation will be published at http://www.suse.de/~nashif/autoinstall/docs.html once it is ready. Also check /usr/share/doc/packages/autoyast2 on your box when autoyast is installed Regards Hubba
Hi Hubba, my first experience with SuSE 9.1 and autoinstall is not so good. I changed the installation-source from 9.0 to 9.1 an tried to install a test-system via PXe and an autoinst.xml stream. It stopped with the error message "no harddisk found". Then I copied the autoinst.xml to a floppy and tried to install from the SuSE 9.1 CD. The error message was simular "no harddisk proposal" So I install the system without autoinst.xml and it worked! bye, Michael On Tue, 4 May 2004, Hubertus Haniel wrote:

Interesting - what hardware is it? - Do you get any devices back from "fdisk -l" if you switch to the console on that error? The only times I have seen issues on 9.1 was LVM and raid related issues during the beta but most of them should have been fixed by now. Regards Hubba
Hi Hubba, my hardware is pretty simple. It's a pentium II 350 MHz 128 MBRAM, no SCSI only IDE. I stopped trying autoinstall because i needed a quick Installation. I attached my autoinst.xml stream to this mail for info. bye, Michael On Tue, 4 May 2004, Hubertus Haniel wrote:

Your template looks fine to me I have ut my drive config below which is efectively the same but it is using reiserfs rather then ext3 and I am specifying the partition numbers which you could try to see if that works for you. <partitioning config:type="list"> <drive> <device>/dev/sda</device> <partitions config:type="list"> <partition> <crypt_fs config:type="boolean">false</crypt_fs> <filesystem config:type="symbol">swap</filesystem> <format config:type="boolean">true</format> <mount>swap</mount> <partition_id config:type="integer">131</partition_id> <partition_nr config:type="integer">1</partition_nr> <size>auto</size> </partition> <partition> <crypt_fs config:type="boolean">false</crypt_fs> <filesystem config:type="symbol">reiser</filesystem> <format config:type="boolean">true</format> <fs_options> <opt_format> <option_blank config:type="boolean">true</option_blank> <option_str>--format</option_str> <option_value>3.6</option_value> </opt_format> <opt_hash> <option_blank config:type="boolean">true</option_blank> <option_str>--hash</option_str> <option_value>auto</option_value> </opt_hash> </fs_options> <mount>/</mount> <partition_id config:type="integer">131</partition_id> <partition_nr config:type="integer">2</partition_nr> <size>max</size> </partition> </partitions> <use>all</use> </drive> </partitioning> Regards Hubba -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: suse-autoinstall-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands, e-mail: suse-autoinstall-help@suse.com
