RE: [suse-autoinstall] SuSE 9.2 Online Updates Mirror
Well, except... ftp/http are a lot more intensive on bandwidth than rync: The rsync remote-update protocol allows rsync to transfer just the dif- ferences between two sets of files across the network connection, using an efficient checksum-search algorithm described in the technical report that accompanies this package. (Also, rsync has a more robust and less machine-intensive way to get the entire tree's directory listing than "ls -lAR".) And, rsync supports rate limiting too, with the --bwlimit switch. -----Original Message----- From: Marlier, Ian [mailto:ian.marlier@studentuniverse.com] Sent: Friday, March 18, 2005 5:35 AM To: suse-autoinstall@suse.com Subject: RE: [suse-autoinstall] SuSE 9.2 Online Updates Mirror Remember that wget was originally written for this purpose...I haven't set this up yet, so I don't know what the command line would be, but wget will allow you to mirror from any http/ftp repository (and can do things like bandwidth limits, which tends to make the sysadmins at the other end of the connection happier). -----Original Message----- From: suse_list [mailto:suse_list@infineon.net] Sent: Thu 3/17/2005 7:07 PM To: suse-autoinstall@suse.com Subject: [suse-autoinstall] SuSE 9.2 Online Updates Mirror Hi, I am woundering is there anyway to rsync the SuSE 9.2 Online updates mirror. We run a shop of more then 50 Suse workstations and would like to have a local mirror of the SuSE patches. Is there a rsync mirror we can latch onto, from where we can download to our local patch server? Also we would like to have it setup in the autoinstall (autoyast) portion. We can install all workstations just fine, via PXE, but would like that it would also setup the online updates link to our server and update from there nightly (at like 2am). What do i need to put into the XML file for the online updates, that it does it automatically.
