[opensuse-autoinstall] Remastering
I have an autoyast-based installation that will soon be going over 4.7GB. What is the easiest way to remaster it into multiple CDs/DVDs? It's SLE-based. Is there a tool to automatically split repos/create the catalogs? Or should I resort to splitting the repos manually and referencing them? -- -- Erico -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-autoinstall+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-autoinstall+help@opensuse.org

I'm afraid there is no easy way for that. At least I never did that or heared of that yet. We have the yast2 product-creator but AFAIK that can only create one media sources. Why is your media so huge? Can't you put the add-on (if there are any) on another media? -- ciao, Uwe Gansert Uwe Gansert SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) Business: http://www.suse.de/~ug -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-autoinstall+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-autoinstall+help@opensuse.org

Mostly customer-generated data (application-specific) in RPMs. Their RPMs are already in a separate repo, so it should be a matter of putting them into another media. For now they're being included in the same media (repos as directories on the DVD). My main concern is with the OS itself, as it may be necessary to install it on systems that only have CD drives. And I couldn't find CD images for the version I'm using (just DVD images). I could use network repos, but that will take some convincing, as the available links can be quite slow for that. Any suggestions? -- Erico -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-autoinstall+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-autoinstall+help@opensuse.org

I'd say it's very very hard to build a CD version from the DVD version. There is no script I know and even if you'd manage to spread the RPMs over 6 CDs incl. correct metadata on the CDs, you'd probably have to change media after each 2nd or 3rd RPM - unless you manage to put the RPMs in such a clever way on the CDs, that the installation order fits to the order on the medias. -- ciao, Uwe Gansert Uwe Gansert SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) Business: http://www.suse.de/~ug -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-autoinstall+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-autoinstall+help@opensuse.org

That's more or less what I thought. Solving these RPM dependencies previously could be quite a challenge, if not duplicating all the effort YaST already does. Optimally distributing the RPMs among media could be the stuff of a PhD thesis on AI. :) I guess I'll work on convincing them to use the network or getting some external DVD drives then.
