[HELP] Can not find installation source.
Hi *, i am already running a Redhat KickStart server, but im not very familiar with SuSE AutoYast or ALICE. Actually i got a problem with the Bootmanagement i guess. The system start up read the info file but can't find a source to install from. That is what i have already done: - I set up a NFS service and i am exporting SuSE 8.0 FTP Version (mirroring ftp.suse.com). The NFS Server is called "linuxsrv". - I created a bootdisk (default) and added the "info" file and the "autoinst.xml" to the root directory of the floppy. - I created a modules disk (default). Then i replaced the initrd with a new one (including 3c90x.o and aic7xxx.o). - The autoinst.xml file was created with the yast2 mod and checked with tidy. That is what happen: - After loading the kernel and modules from the disk the setup stops with a message that says that the is no valid installation source. I double check the nfs-server and it is possible to do a nfs-installtion on the target system with the manual setup from the bootdisk. Here is my info file ... i found example info-files with different syntax in the www and i am not sure if this one is correct. I already tried to use "<variable>: <value>" and "<variable>=<value>". <code> IP: 192.168.0.100 Netmask: 255.255.255.0 Gateway: 192.168.0.1 Server: 192.168.0.244 Serverdir: /home/ftp/pub/LinuxInstall/suse8.0_i386 Nameserver: 192.168.0.10 Netdevice: eth0 insmod aic7xxx insmod 3c90x autoyast=default install=nfs://192.168.0.244/home/ftp/pub/LinuxInstall/suse8.0_i386 </code> Would be nice if you could help me ... if you need further info please drop me a line (mailto:guettler@fokus.gmd.de). Thank you, Felix. Excuse my basic level english. _________________________________________________________________________ Felix V. Güttler Fraunhofer FOKUS - VST

Hi *,
i am already running a Redhat KickStart server, but im not very familiar with SuSE AutoYast or ALICE.
So you have a floppy with a customized initrd!
- The autoinst.xml file was created with the yast2 mod and checked with tidy.
That is what happen: - After loading the kernel and modules from the disk the setup stops with a message that says that the is no valid installation source.
Please check the messages on the 2nd. console (alt+f2) and see what is happening there, this might give some clues.
<code> IP: 192.168.0.100 Netmask: 255.255.255.0 Gateway: 192.168.0.1
Server: 192.168.0.244 Serverdir: /home/ftp/pub/LinuxInstall/suse8.0_i386 Nameserver: 192.168.0.10 Netdevice: eth0
insmod aic7xxx insmod 3c90x
All looks OK till here.
autoyast=default install=nfs://192.168.0.244/home/ftp/pub/LinuxInstall/suse8.0_i386
Try with a colon. Also try without the install option, as the data is provided already. If you have a control file 'autoinst.xml' in the root of the floppy, then autoyast=default is not needed. Alternative: Supply the data above on the command line.

Hi, Can anyone tell me which is the correct mailing list for installation problems ?? Not Autoinstall problems, but pure YAST errors n stuff alike ... TIA, Paulo
Please check the messages on the 2nd. console (alt+f2) and see what is happening there, this might give some clues.
Well alt+f3 (alt+f2 has no effect ???): <code> . . . Hardware probing finished get info from cmdline Looking for SuSE CD ... Ok, that didn't work; see if we can activate another storage device ... insmod aic7xxx Using /modules/aic7xxx Ok, that seems to have worked Looking for SuSE CD again Checking CD: /dev/sr0 Ok, that didn't work; see if we can activate another storage device ... No other storage devices found; giving up. Automatic Setup not possible </code> Must be some kind of newbie-mistake i made.
autoyast=default install=nfs://192.168.0.244/home/ftp/pub/LinuxInstall/suse8.0_i386 Try with a colon. Also try without the install option, as the data is provided already. I deleted the "autoyast" line and added a colon. Same problem :-(.
Alternative: Supply the data above on the command line. Same here ...
Thanks in advance. Felix.
