Problems with autoinstall of sles8 via HTTP
I am having difficulties with the autoinstall of sles8 via HTTP. When I boot up, I receive the following error after the hardware detection and activation of usb devices: "Could not find the UnitedLinux Installation Source. Activating manual setup program." So I then go through the manual screen and verify that my network card (eth0) is loaded, and select 'Start Installation / System > Start Installation / Update > network > HTTP. If I choose 'Automatic Configuration via DHCP?', I get this error: "DHCP Configuration Failed." If I choose no on 'Automcatic Configuration via DHCP" and manually put in my static IP address, netmask and gateway, I get this error: "An error occurred during the network configuration. Probably your network card was not recognized by the kernel!" Here are some more details of my setup. My installation source is loop mounted ISO's setup as described here: http://www.suse.de/~nashif/autoinstall/faq.html#id2459380. I am using the SP3 kernel, initrd and have the driverupdate at the root of the source as suggested. I have tried this on multiple machines with the same result. I would appreciate any suggestions or solutions. Thanks, Jeff

At this point of the installation, you haveto verify two things: 1. You have supplied the correct installation source with the "install" keyword and make sure the files are accessable. 2. Verify the NIC is actually configured. This can be seen on the third console. Follow the messages on the console and see where it is hanging and why. Usually its the wrong kernel module or something similar. Anas
I would appreciate any suggestions or solutions.
Thanks,
Jeff
Thanks for your reply, I checked the two things you suggested and am still having the same problem. See my response below your comments: On Tue, 2004-02-10 at 13:04, Anas Nashif wrote:

I have verified the installation source and the files are accessable via http from a browser. My install setting is: install=http://151.155.159.10/iso/suse/sles8 sles 8 is the directory where I loop mounted the iso's and created the sym links, etc. NOTE: I did add the new sym link to the SLES/content directory and changed the entries in the yast/order and instorder files as per your update to the FAQ.

The NIC appears to be configured properly. Here are the messages I see on the third console: "Looking for a network server... Ok, that didn't work; see if we can activate another network device... insmod e100 Using /modules/e100.0 Ok, that seems to have worked. :-) Looking for a network server again... Ok, that didn't work; see if we can activate another network device... No further network cards found; giving up hostname: netmask: broadcast: 255.255.255.255 gateway: server: 151.155.159.10 (no ip) name server: Looking for a network server again... Ok, that didn't work; see if we can activate another network device... No further network cards found; giving up Automatic setup not possible" My network card is an e100 and it appears that the module loaded correctly. Do you see anything from this message that I am missing? I have used this same box to autoinstall SuSE 9.0 from the network via http without a problem. Thanks, Jeff
