Latest news from a Suse 9.3 Network installation ( no interface error message )
After configuring the Section "Network Devices" - Netowork Card and starting the installation again: Error Message: ~ DHCP-Server can not be configured - no interface ~ LDAP Client can not be configured .. ~ Kerberos can not be configured .. The point is: I newer configured these Services. Taking a look into the xml file: These service has been added to the xml file by autoyast. Its looks like that they are just dummy entries BUT they are added before the Section <networking> subsection <interfaces> Its real fun to install Suse 9.3 Hajo ============================ Hans-Joachim Ehlers UNIX Systems Engineer EUMETSAT Am Kavalleriesand, 31 64295, Darmstadt, Germany Tel : +49 6151 807-7307 eMail : hansjoachim.ehlers@eumetsat.int iNet : www.eumetsat.de

Its real fun to install Suse 9.3
The reference profile created by yast in SuSE 9.3 is indeed reference only and needs some fixes before it can be used. 1st of all, you should only select those "additional resources" that you really have configured on the host where you build the profile on. Also, in many cases it is advisable to check the created xml against the documentation and throw out everything that you think is unnecessary - like user entries for system users other than root, boot loader configuration, group entries etc... Trying to keep the xml-file as simple as possible is the best way to get the installation going. -- Volkmar Glauche - Department of Neurology volkmar.glauche@uniklinik-freiburg.de Universitaetsklinikum Freiburg Phone 49(0)761-270-5331 Breisacher Str. 64 Fax 49(0)761-270-5416 79106 Freiburg

it would be nice to know what exactly you did because I can not reproduce this here. But anyway, throw that empty sections out of the profile and everything is fine.

the order does not matter.

Yeah, well.... You want even more fun? Try openSUSE :) But not Beta1. Autoyast does not work there. -- ciao, Uwe Gansert Uwe Gansert, Server Technologies Team SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, Maxfeldstrasse 5, D-90409 Nürnberg, Germany e-mail: uwe.gansert@suse.de, Tel: +49-(0)911-74053-0, Fax: +49-(0)911-74053-476, Web: http://www.suse.de
