[opensuse-autoinstall] Problems with X config
Hello,
I've created an autoinst.xml file which works pretty well. I have one
issue for which I can't find a solution.
If I do a manual install, X get's properly configured. But with my
autoinst, it does not. To start with, I had no X11 settings in there
hoping that it would all be auto detected, but not so. Then I tried to
add;
<x11>

But that does not work either. What happens is that my graphics card is properly detected, but the resolution is setup as 800x600 and the desktop is setup with 1024x768 (so I get a virtual desktop). In a manual install, this is properly setup with 1400x1050.
have you tried to create a full X11 section with the autoyast UI and used that? -- ciao, Uwe Gansert Uwe Gansert, Server Technologies Team SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) Business: http://www.suse.de/~ug -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-autoinstall+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-autoinstall+help@opensuse.org

Yes, having the full X11 section makes it work. But that's less than perfect since the same autoyast file should be able to be applied to different hardware. I would have thought that this would be auto detected when using autoyast as it is auto detected when doing a manual install?

I use the attached script to configure X and Xgl on my builds. I call from my init script which drops the system to init3 first. It may need some work to handle the new G01 nvidia and ati gfx drivers. -- Simon Crute IS&T. Bracknell. UK.

Been tuning that script for a while eh? Anyway, I have no problems with ATI/STR/XGL at the moment. Perhaps you should to re-evaluate that one. Yeh, it's been growing for a while. :-) The main reason I still use it is that it works on all the machines we use here, and leaves the end user with everything configured from their first logon. They don't need to go into the xgl settings applet, download 3rd party drivers themselves etc etc. -- Simon Crute IS&T. Bracknell. Hi Mangus, Since there's no telling what hardware my users have, I've found that letting SAX autoconfigure seems to work the best. I do this on all SuSE/OpenSUSE versions with a post install script: Best Regards, Lee Magnus Boman wrote:

Any ideas?

Thanks. I might just use that one as a work around for now...
