[opensuse-autoinstall] Is lilo still supposed to work in SLES 11?
Hi, I'm using this in my profile: <bootloader> <loader_device>/dev/sda</loader_device> <loader_type>lilo</loader_type> <location>custom</location> </bootloader> The result is this lilo.conf: # Modified by YaST2. Last modification on Tue Mar 31 15:57:07 UTC 2009 menu-scheme = Wb:kw:Wb:Wb timeout = 800 lba32 change-rules reset prompt default boot = /dev/disk/by-id/ata-WDC_WD2500JS-60MHB5_WD-WCANKH180905 Thus, there are no sections, and again the "default" entry doesn't get a value. I reported this "default" bug for 10.0 RC1 :-( But there have been at least sections in the past. Is there any chance to get anything fixed for lilo bugs in AY? Otherwise the hint "lilo is not supported" should be changed into "lilo doesn't work in any way". cu, Frank -- Dipl.-Inform. Frank Steiner Web: http://www.bio.ifi.lmu.de/~steiner/ Lehrstuhl f. After studying y2log for a long time :-) here's what happened: - we made a typo when specifying our own kernel package, like <kernel>bio-krnel</kernel> instead of bio-kernel. - AY didn't find this package, but instead of complaining it decided to use kernel-default instead. I would prefer if it told me that I selected a kernel that doesn't exist... - Trying to add kernel-default, AY failed because kernel-default was "tabooed", so it was removed from the addon-list again. I guess it was tabooed because I explicitely had added a kernel. This taboo should be removed when this kernel doesn't exist, or AY should ask what to do. - The whole installation started without any kernel. Another situation where AY should stop and ask, I think... - As there was no /boot/vmlinuz, the boot loader configuration removed every section, but again without complaining. A hint like "I couldn't create any section because no kernel is installed" would be more helpful than trying to install lilo and complaining about the wrong "default" entry :-) Thus, with a kernel installed, lilo configuration runs fine without errors! I just think AY should have complained about my typo at some time before trying to install lilo. cu, Frank -- Dipl.-Inform. Frank Steiner Web: http://www.bio.ifi.lmu.de/~steiner/ Lehrstuhl f.
