SLES 10 autoinstall not working with serial console
Hi All, I have a working configuration of autoyast/autoinstall for SLES10. This configuration breaks (stops with the "An error occurred during the installation" message) if I include the option "console=ttyS0" in the linuxrc parameters. The last error message I see on syslog is: yast2[3711]: <5> [ui-ncurses] YNCursesUI.cc(YNCursesUI):101 NCurses: (-1) newterm() failed Has anyone seen this before? Is there a fix/workaround available? Should I log a bug against this? Any reply appreciated. Config files and syslog output available on request. stefan -- Stefan Hinker Sun Solution Center - Benchmarking Tel: +49 6103 752-300 Sun Microsystems GmbH Fax: +49 6103 752-299 Amperestr. 6 Stefan.Hinker@Sun.COM D-63225 Langen http://www.sun.com/solutioncenters/

This changed in SLES10, try console=ttySG0 Hartmut

Hartmut, sorry, this is even worse. With "console=ttySG0", there is no output whatsoever, and the installation seems to stop right after reading the boot-kernel from the tftp server (which I know because I monitor network traffic between the boot-server and the install client). To reiterate: When I use "console=ttyS0", I have working console output. But autoyast reports an error, presumably because it can not create a new (virtual) terminal using ncurses. Anyone with a solution? thanks, stefan Hartmut Gottwald wrote:

To add to my earlier comment:
This changed in SLES10, try console=ttySG0
/dev/ttySG0 does not exist in /dev/* on my running SLES10 system. stefan -- Stefan Hinker Sun Solution Center - Benchmarking Tel: +49 6103 752-300 Sun Microsystems GmbH Fax: +49 6103 752-299 Amperestr. 6 Stefan.Hinker@Sun.COM D-63225 Langen http://www.sun.com/solutioncenters/

Stefan, sorry, seem to be specific to IA64, an EFI based platform. # ls -l /dev/ttySG0 crw-rw---- 1 root uucp 204, 40 2006-10-05 18:36 /dev/ttySG0 Hartmut
