[opensuse-autoinstall] SuSE 10.1 + Auto Detect Soundcard
All, I have the following in my control file <sound> <autoinstall config:type="boolean">true</autoinstall> <configure_detected config:type="boolean">true</configure_detected> </sound> However, after the install, the soundcard is not detected. Is the soundcard autodetection depend on what packages are installed? I have the following within the software tag: <addons config:type="list"> <addon>SuSE-Documentation</addon> <addon>Gnome</addon> <addon>Kernel-Devel</addon> <addon>Basis-Devel</addon> <addon>Java</addon> </addons> Anyone else had with autodetecting soundcards before? Any help would be greatly appreciated. You may have seen my response to your first posting on April 25th. I assume that an pervious version of grub is still installed in your MBR and the new boot loader is not installed into the MBR, but into the root partition. See also: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=230860 This problem is caused by a change of the default location of the bootloader. You may try to change the autoyast bootloader configuration so that grub is installed into the MBR again. As an alternative, you may replace the MBR code by a generic one as suggested in the Bug Report. Hello, King, Richard (CE1 UNIX Admin) napsal(a):
All,
I have the following in my control file
<sound> <autoinstall config:type="boolean">true</autoinstall> <configure_detected config:type="boolean">true</configure_detected> </sound>
However, after the install, the soundcard is not detected. Is the soundcard autodetection depend on what packages are installed? I have the following within the software tag:
Yast only requires libhd (hwinfo package) for hardware detection. Hwinfo is a base package and is required by yast. No need to worry about package selection.
<addons config:type="list"> <addon>SuSE-Documentation</addon> <addon>Gnome</addon> <addon>Kernel-Devel</addon> <addon>Basis-Devel</addon> <addon>Java</addon> </addons>
Anyone else had with autodetecting soundcards before? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
You can test autodetection with command 'hwinfo --sound', if the output is empty the card is not detected. But that's very unlikely, I would suspect the yast module... Does it work in standard installation (without autoyast)? I have to admit that I haven't tested autoinstallation for a quite long time, if it doesn't work then report a bug into the bugzilla (and attach logs). Simon / Ladislav, Thank you very much for your responses. I did use the "yast2 sound add" command during the <post-script> autoyast sequence, and it does appear that the sound is now enabled. However, I am getting no sound (not exactly sure why). This was not a huge issue for me, sound usage is a relatively low priority at this moment. I will revisit this issue when I time. Thanks again. -- Rick King -----Original Message----- From: King, Richard (CE1 UNIX Admin) Sent: Monday, May 07, 2007 1:29 PM To: opensuse-autoinstall@opensuse.org Subject: [opensuse-autoinstall] SuSE 10.1 + Auto Detect Soundcard All, I have the following in my control file <sound> <autoinstall config:type="boolean">true</autoinstall> <configure_detected config:type="boolean">true</configure_detected> </sound> However, after the install, the soundcard is not detected. Hello Richard King, Richard (CE1 UNIX Admin) napsal(a):
Simon / Ladislav,
Thank you very much for your responses.

Probably muted mixer?
This was not a huge issue for me, sound usage is a relatively low priority at this moment. I will revisit this issue when I time. Thanks again.
I would suggest using the standard Autoyast way. If it doesn't work then it's a bug and must be fixed. Using a workaround (starting yast from a script) doesn't help much in the long term. Please, if you find that it doesn't work correctly report the problem into the bugzilla. Thank you!
