[opensuse-autoinstall] Help with SLES9u4 network install?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi all, I know SLES9u4 is old, and if there is a better mailing list than this one please re-direct me to it. :) I'm trying to PXE boot and install SLES9u4, and 32bit works fine, but the 64bit one invariably gives me these messages during boot up, and then drops me to a blue curses GUI screen declaring there has been an error. I'm not convinced that I didn't do something wrong settingup the NFS and PXE configs, but I'm at a loss as to where to start debugging this. What RAMdisk file is it that was loaded right before these errors? the initrd from grub? or some other install ramdisk? Any and all help is appreciated! -Kyle

it looks like it successfully loaded the installation system "/boot/root" Did you mix up 32bit initrd/root with 64bit initrd/root maybe? initrd has to be on your tftp server, while the root file is one the installation source. It's easy to mix them up. -- ciao, Uwe Gansert Uwe Gansert SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) Business: http://www.suse.de/~ug -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-autoinstall+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-autoinstall+help@opensuse.org

I don't think so. I have the merged CD tree NFS exported from the same machine that is the tftp boot server. I mount it at /export/OSImages/SLES9u4_X64. For the tftpboot files, I just loop-back mount /export/OSImages/SLES9u4_X64/boot into /tftpboot/SLES9u4_X64. DHCP/PXE is configured to boot into pxegrub. The pxegrub menu points to the kernel and initrd in /tftpboot/SLES9u4_X64. I diffed the install tree with another one, no changes. I verified the the mounts and the 64bit ones are all 64bit - no typos (they were done cut and paste.) I don't get it.
initrd has to be on your tftp server, while the root file is one the installation source. It's easy to mix them up.
Where in the install tree is the root file? So I can verify it's contents? Later (SLES11 for example) it's in /boot/<arch>/root but IIRC on SLES9 it's called "root" and is in the /boot/ directory -- ciao, Uwe Gansert Uwe Gansert SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) Business: http://www.suse.de/~ug -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-autoinstall+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-autoinstall+help@opensuse.org
