Hi!
Don't know how you can change the background on CD and don't know whether what
I write works for 8.2 (as it was introduced quite recently, but don't
remember when): In current releases, the picture which is displayed at
bootloader prompt is in /boot/message. This file is a cpio archive, so you
can unpack it, replace the background.jpg file and pack it back. But beware
of the size of the archive, try keeping the total size the same as it was
before, otherwise GRUB will report an error and boot in text-mode only.
If it doesn't work for 8.2, try asking Steffen Winterfeldt

Take the gfxboot source rpm and look at the spec file. Or simply use 'rpm -bb' to rebuild it with your own pcx file. Steffen
