Hi, ls-lR.gz is there just for archival purposes and has nothing to do with the installation. The location of the packages is determined using the package database in suse/setup/descr/packages (Search for "Loc:" ), for example: =Loc: 1 3ddiag-0.716-116.1.i586.rpm means that 3ddiag is on CD1. There is a file called ls-lR.gz file in each CD which contains list of all files, I think while installing this file would get uncompressed, yast seaches in this file and prompts for correct CD.

In a multi CD install, how does YaST know on which CD a given RPM resides on in order to prompt for the correct CD?
