I have updated information from our linuxrc developer. The value for the MAC-address is only written to install.inf (where autoyast code fetches it from) when a network based install is detected by linuxrc, that means if linuxrc sees something like "install=nfs:..." or "install=ftp:..." on kernel command line or if a network based install is selected in linuxrc menu. We will certainly fix that for SLES11 SP3 and openSUSE 12.3. So as a workaround it should probably be possible to use install= with a network install url on kernel command line. At least this caused a line starting with "HWAddr:" show up in my /etc/install.inf in installation environment in my test setup for SLES11 SP2.
