Sorry - I was a bit in a hurry and changed report/confirm instead of general/mode/confirm. This fixed my problem with the missing kernel - and had some influence on my X setup: - now I don't even get the 640x480 default mode: X doesn't start, but XF86Config seems unmodified. But the link to /usr/X11R6/bin/X seems to be missing (was there before). Any hints?
Btw, you should always configure a base software selection.
