Just a note to anyone still using a version of SuSE 9 or SLES 9 which doesn't accept a mac address for the netdevice= option. It is indeed possible. It is indeed exceedingly easy to do. Neither the kernel nor the initrd as provided by Novell need be customized. And by default, the linuxrc in the initrd provided by Novell cannot use a mac address with the netdevice= option. Assuming I can get my employer to sign off on it I'll contribute a brief note to the list FAQ as soon as possible. I post this only to acknowledge the frustration I've had over the last year in trying to get this to work, and the kind help Steffen has tried to provide. I know Suse/SLES 10 accepts this as an option, however in production situations there are legitimate reasons for using the older releases. Thanks.
