pre-script + /tmp/profile/modified.xml modification

From a recent thread I found that I can modify autoyast.xml in /tmp/profile through pre-script and save it as /tmp/profile/modified.xml so that autoyast re-reads the modified information (dynamically generated partition info). Will this technique work for SLES9 autoinstall? I found a reference to this only in the SLES10 autoinstall manual.
