[opensuse-artwork] SMB Traffic Analyzer project looking our for graphics
Hi all, The smb traffic analyzer project (a network traffic analysis tool for Samba servers, see http://holger123.wordpress.com/smb-traffic-analyzer/ ) looks for artists who are able to create a nice logo for the software package, and who are willing to donate the artwork to the project for free and in a compatible way regarding the license (SMBTA is GPLv3). We think the current logo ( http://morelias.org/smbta/gfx/smbta300.png ) is nice, but has grown a little bit on us, and since we will release a new version of SMBTA very soon, we would like to see something new at this place. Non of the dev team is experienced in making nice looking graphics, hell, some of them are even colorblind to an extreme So none of the guys will be able to do something on it, and that's why we are looking out for people wanna help. Rules? There are a few. Design? What ever you like... as you can see the old logo uses things like a lens and bit's floating around to focus a bit on the network analysis idea. Any idea you have is fine. In the ideal case we would require: - a SMBTA logo that can be used in each sub-program ( this does not have to be a circle as it's done in the current logo, a rectangle format is fine) in SVG format (so that we can build it into the programs by resizing it to just fit into the components) - an application icon for those parts of the project that are visible on the desktop (SVG or typical icon sizes set) Work is currently being done to move the SMBTA homepage and documentation to one of servers of the Samba Team, and to release a new version of SMBTA. While we release with a "when it's done" strategy, we are really looking forward to get the package done, and would like to include the new graphics on any of these places. What's in it for you? While I'm not an artist either, I think it is important to note that for potential future marketing needs, keeping colors simple or few is always a good idea. Either create two versions of a logo, one colorful, and one with 1-2 colors only or a single version of the logo with reduced colors is something that will make your potential marketing choices a lot easier. Reason being, certain swag (e.g. t-shirts, some color printing of brochures or posters, etc.) will charge extra per color. And while it is easy, using GIMP, to reduce colors before sending to a vendor for manufacturing, a non-artist reducing colors may look suboptimal. Luckily our Geeko logo is ideal for swag production. :-D Bryen -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+owner@opensuse.org
