Hello friends, And then, let's start? The 12.1 is with the same appearance of 11.4. It's time we start to produce the wallpapers, skins, andwhat else is needed. cheers, -- Raul Libório http://rauhmaru.blogspot.com/ rauhmarutsªhotmailºcom openSUSE Member | Linux User #4444581 "There are only 10 types of people in the world - Those who understand binary, and those who don't." -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+help@opensuse.org

Raul, Mind if I make a quick question... how do you guys work? Everyone submits and then pick one, or in a more 'fedorish' style... one general design approved by the team and then people from the team evolve it in a collaborative form? I might be interested in participating for this one :) NM -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+help@opensuse.org

This is the time for brainstorming. Suggestions of the most varied are welcome!
I don't really have much suggestions as I'm not an artist/designer/photographer, but I did followed by close how the Fedora Design Team worked and I have to say that their collaboration methodology and charismatic leadership of Máirín is the secret combination that keeps that team strong (and despite of the issues around F15, much due to opinion makers seeking the spotlight, it is a strong and united team). My suggestion would probably point to the their 'modus operandi'... Fedora distributions have a theme voted and everyone who wants submits their proposals for appreciation. Everyone votes on one design and from that moment on, everyone proposes improvements over the same design, many times the final design has a personal touch of everyone. This page shows a bit of what happened with F14: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/F14_Artwork_archive This one is also interesting on a broader view: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/F14_Artwork This approach would be something I would suggest to everyone. There is very cool people on this mailing list with ideas, feel free to show them and to raise back from the ashes! That would be the most important thing...
Nelson, so I followed, the new visual identity is saved for last.
Fedora does it the other way around :)
Let's try to get everything ready before launch.
It would be interesting to know what the rest of the people think, Robert's and Javier's opinion would for sure deliever much more value as their expertise would be decisive on this. 11.4 was the first release with community driven artwork, and the process was not very smooth or organized as you might remember. So there's not really any well established procedure or workflow. But iirc for 11.4 Sirko started the work building on a general design (a wallpaper?) that someone else had originally made, and in the end Javier took care of business to get everything done at the last minute. So it would probably be good to start early this time and get more people involved if possible :-) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+help@opensuse.org

on the marketting point of view, to be able to have all the documents ready for launch, we need the artwork early than last time. two month before release would be good (at least for the most visible things). And I would really like to have the distro name visible (may be very small) in the splash screens, let only to recognise the old versions when seeing them on creen :-) jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://www.youtube.com/user/jdddodinorg http://jdd.blip.tv/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+help@opensuse.org

My intention, which I didn't follow through with due to other commitments, was to ask Coolo if he had any particular vision for 12.1, and from there to brainstorm with the art team. Alternatively it could be good to brainstorm a bunch of stuff first up. Personally, I enjoyed the industrial look of 11.4 - it's a pity that being a little bit 'last minute' we weren't able to do more with it. Any contributions will not be wasted - even if work doesn't fit with the primary theme of the release, it's great to provide users with alternatives. How do you guys feel about aesthetic styles right now? I thing light, clean and minimal is still very contemporary, with an almost retro chunky edge at times. People also still enjoy really beautiful high-res photography that makes the most of their lovely HD monitors. A suite of art that represents some favorite things for users - such as science, fine art, design, business/finance - without being too heavily representational - might be nice. cheers, Helen On Wed, Jun 1, 2011 at 4:22 PM, jdd <jdd@dodin.org> wrote:

I'm looking forward to see your artwork submission and not just the crazy talk.

Dig up the forums... it's not important what you think or what I think... it's important what THEY (the users) think....

11.4 was no nice that Vincent Untz had to dig up a few wallpapers with Steiner! Lets make sure that won't happen again and that this time we have a process working.
How do you guys feel about aesthetic styles right now?

It was suggested to me as key developer (he'd had the 'Celadon' name for 14.1) and why shouldn't developers be invited to suggest ideas - if they are aiming for a certain quality in their development, for example, speed, smoothness, stability or perhaps getting more cutting edge, or moving to new applications, these aims can be reflected in the artwork. This will help our marketing efforts and artwork all work in harmony together.
I'm looking forward to see your artwork submission and not just the crazy talk. I would rather see submissions than talk.
I believe it is normal practice to discuss and make a plan at the outset. Suggesting ideas might fire off imagination of people and we can work together on a look, instead of everyone going off in separate directions. There needs to be a unified approach with us working together. Regarding this image http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00005RCW8.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg do you know what kind of mathematical structure it is called, that generates that three-dimensional graphic? Or do we have a copy of that original graphic? Likewise, do we have that 'LINUX' text as a font or graphic? Or would we need to create those from scratch? I wanted to experiment with some variations on that design. thanks Helen -- IRC: helen_au helen.south@opensuse.org helensouth.com -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+help@opensuse.org

Well, there is not much background here. We just needed some artwork but did not have the money to hire an artist. So we decided to re-use some of the stuff from our studies at university (three of the S.u.S.E. founders studied mathematics).
