[opensuse-artwork] Wallpaper proposals for 13.2
Hi list mates!! This time I share a pair of wallpapers made by a spanish user. He's a member of spanish openSUSE forum, and there he shared a pair of really good wallpapers (IMHO) I asked him to share here in the ML. But he didn't know how to do it, so I write here in his name and put him in CC. He made a first wallpaper for 13.1, but I asked him to change the text for the 13.2 and later he made another one. You can check them here: - http://maniat1k101.deviantart.com/art/openSuSE-13-1-452611334 - http://maniat1k101.deviantart.com/art/openSuSE-13-2-452856961 I shared that work in G+ and other communities and many people like them... I think that there are a good work, but just check it out yourself! ;) He made that in Gimp, so there's no a .svg file, but a .xfc... hope you like them! 've phun Geekos! -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+owner@opensuse.org
Sorry, my fault! he's not from Spain! He's a spanish speaker, but he's from Uruguay (I think...) ;-) 2014-05-09 20:46 GMT+02:00 Victor Hck <correohck@gmail.com>:

I like this one. It's really great. Good colours and well balanced. I would just remove the little dot between the geeko and the release number. Maybe we could also get a version without release number, just with the geeko, so we could compare those? Greets Marcus

Uh uh! I love those! They preserve the dark that we discussed in the mailing list and also adds a fresh coat of green to it. Like Marcus said, make another version without the point between Geeko and release numbre. Or remove that number, or even Geeko upside number, or something like that!! cc-by-nc-nd is not acceptable in openSUSE https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Accepted_licences If the NC clause was dropped (and therefore becoming CC-BY-NC), it would be legally acceptable, but probably not acceptable practically, as we normally need to make derivative works in order to use the wallpaper elsewhere in the distro as part of a unified theme.
I can do some dark ones again, but as Victor said to me I will try it with inkscape.

I would not add a version number, because ppl tend to use wallpapers over the releases. The geeko has been part of nearly every wallpaper in the past and was accepted well by the community, so I would like to keep it for now. Concerning the slogans: these might go to the marketing material, instead of the wallpaper (e.g. countdown banner ...) Greets Marcus

I like the last 2 with the faint lines. It might need some extra work, but it is getting there. I think also that the logo in the middle really takes away from the image in general. Maybe a good idea would be to make the logo as a branding element and not as an artistic element on the picture. It could be placed on a corner. -- Andy (anditosan) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+owner@opensuse.org

This seems to be Amakage plasma theme, which was IIRC used as default for some other distros, so would appear as 'unimaginative'. At least that is my impression (to be clear, it fits nicely with the wallpaper, i'm talking about 'psychological' effect). Yes it's Amakage. The problem with the theme is the license. It's CC-BY-NC-ND which is simply not usable for us. It would be great if you could come up with another suggestion we could start playing around with. Greets Marcus

Here is a screenshot of Andi's pure theme:
http://opensuse.ethz.ch/13.2/KDE4_pure.png
which also plays well with the new colors.
It still might need some work, but could be a good starting point.
@MargueriteSu do you think you could perhaps help working further on that Plasma theme?
Greetings Marcus
Looks really great!! I made and attemp time ago with icons...but was really bad...
What is the green color used in theme?
@Victor:
I have created an updated version:
http://opensuse.ethz.ch/13.2/openSUSE_13_2_6.png
http://opensuse.ethz.ch/13.2/openSUSE_13_2_6.svg
It contains an svg noise (no bitmap) and is optimized for 4k. This would allow to use just one wallpaper and crop it accordingly.
The logo is based on the modifications Marguerite did (flat feets, Open Sans).
Greetings Marcus

I really like it.
Could you perhaps provide a version without the dropshadow below the Geeko?

for sure: here you have a preview: - http://susepaste.org/52985081
and another one more... refreshing?? XD - http://susepaste.org/78342733
So as I mentioned in the other thread (http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-artwork/2014-06/msg00026.html), I didnt really like how bright Geeko was so I made it a bit dimmer and slightly green. Not really an artist so its kind of iffy but here it is http://paste.opensuse.org/view/raw/42060848 -- Regards, Uzair Shamim -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+owner@opensuse.org

Hi listmates!!
I like the proposal!!
some ideas: why not to add some text? maybe openSUSE, maybe Linux for open minds, maybe Have a lot of fun, myabe greenest linux...
I, for one, am against adding logos and text to wallpapers. It's the quickest way to get the user to change their wallpaper :-) The perfect wallpaper doesn't get in your way or attract more attention than the actual UI of the desktop and apps. Also, the text or logo will almost always be at least partially covered by application windows. Anyway, that is my opinion, nothing more :-) -- Kenneth Wimer SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Jeff Hawn, Jennifer Guild, Felix Imendörffer, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) Maxfeldstraße 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+owner@opensuse.org
