[opensuse-artwork] 11.4 Promo DVDs
Hey, we are still nowhere with the 11.4 promo DVDs right? I haven't seen any designs yet. Producing these means to deal with some DVD mastering company which means serious business. We always wanted to produce them on our own, now is the time to step up and make it happen. Please don't take this lightly. Enough of scaring you ;) I finally received some production details. Let me share them with you so you can get on your drawing boards! The DVD itself will be double sided so we can only print on the inner ring. Details about that you find in this specification: http://www.arvatodigitalservices.com/fileadmin/specs/english/dvd_label/dvpr0... The papercase will be made after specification ST-0129R. You'll find that one here for instance. http://www.bod-berlin.de/de/downloads/spezies/stecktaschen/Fo144.pdf There are also some old covers around in the opensuse/art repo on gitorious. I bet you can base your work on those. http://gitorious.org/opensuse/art/trees/master/CD-sleeve Now lets get cracking please :) Please show us your ideas for the promo DVDs ASAP so we can collaborate on one. Henne, Just a question out of curiosity... We are looking for a single all around sleeve cover (ex: GNOME, KDE, SPINS, DVD, etc) or are we looking into personalized covers according to project/LiveCD, etc? A all around would probably lower costs based on production. Another pertinent question is the ammount of colors to be used. I'm not sure how it works in Germany, but in Portugal the color pallet used does mess with pricing. Maybe this will help people tunning their work :) Nelson On Fri, Feb 18, 2011 at 3:33 PM, Henne Vogelsang <hvogel@opensuse.org> wrote:

It's true that we're investigating to make GNOME and KDE spins in their own sleeves. I'd like that, and if we had a nice design for the spins its probably easier to convince people to cover the extra costs for that.

I believe thats similar here. This is what it says on the offer, does that make it clear (*) ? There's one big advantage to have both spins : Gnome and KDE We can propose each foundation our cd to be distributed on their booth So KDE e.V. can offer openSUSE KDE DVD promo (and not only kubuntu) and Gnome can also have a openSUSE Gnome DVD to propose and not only another U :-) This is very important for us. Does it matter if we offer 2 DVD to a newcomer in Linux, I don't think. Will that complicate a bit the ambassador request, certainly. Sorry Jacqueline for that ...

Never seen a 4 faces dvd :-) Were we will put the 32 & 64 bits ... We have a real advantage with one promo actually, but a real disadvantage : none of the upstream project want to distribute it as it contain "enemy side" ... And doing so we loose that big opportunity to have it introduce to end-user by our upstream partner. Can we found a good balance between the both way. Henne Klass, is it possible to have 3 versions ? One all-in-one as we have actually for mainly our ambassadors and the 2 spins ? -- Bruno Friedmann Ioda-Net Sàrl www.ioda-net.ch openSUSE Member & Ambassador GPG KEY : D5C9B751C4653227 irc: tigerfoot -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+help@opensuse.org

please, don't. Mandriva did and it's extremely difficult to deal with (think hot line). Currently we are in need for a cover for the all in on promo DVD that is double sided (32/64bit), includes KDE & GNOME live images and an installation image. Everything else we can do later.
A all around would probably lower costs based on production. Another pertinent question is the ammount of colors to be used. I'm not sure how it works in Germany, but in Portugal the color pallet used does mess with pricing.
True I forgot to mention this. The colours for the cover are 1-4 c CMYK + varnish (no UV). And they need the data in PDF 1.3. They print according to ISO Standard 12647.
