[opensuse-artwork] RE: Wallpapers selection
Actually, now that you put it this way, why don't be make something like a pool of good photographers from all over the NET and then contact them one by one and see if they are interested in helping out. This is what we could offer them: Every now and then we would go through their portfolio and choose a few images we like for wallpaper. We will then contact them regarding each of those images and request to release those to us under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License ( http://creativecommons.org/choose/results-one?q_1=3D2&q_1=3D1&field_commerc= ial=3Dy&field_derivatives=3Dsa&field_jurisdiction=3D&field_format=3DStillIm= age&field_worktitle=3D&field_attribute_to_name=3D&field_attribute_to_url=3D= &field_sourceurl=3D&field_morepermissionsurl=3D&lang=3Den_US&n_questions=3D= 3) which will allow us to use the artwork in our distro, including commercial derivatives (this must be explicitly explained to an author) and modify it (share alike clause). We however, under the CCASA license will clearly display the image attribution via tiny [name and web-address] string in the bottom-right corner of an image. I'm sure people will like this, especially if we word the email carefully enough, making sure there are no hidden "costs" to us and to them. Creating samples of work that we like can help both, people searching to identify photographers and graphical designers that have photos (images) we can use, and help artists understand what we are looking for. There is a lot of people around the web creating beautiful work, and they are not always professionals, which should make them more susceptible to offer for cooperation, but to find them is huge task. Victor made first step. I helped publishing my selection, at: http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Wallpaper_graphics_%28proposals%29 Also, you can notice that we have another problem, quantity of information we have to deal with. Above is my selection, other can have other ideas what is the best, and we have to have all of that in one or (most likely) more pages on the wiki. And that is only the first set of images :)

Also, what we can offer is not highly popular news outlet, but for most of them it is free advertising at site that is much bigger then places they publish their images and if included in release it is quite big audience. If such work is included in SUSE releases then it can actually bring them to audience that can express their gratitude in a more tangible ways then words.

Sure they will like. They publish their work to be seen by as many people as possible.
