[opensuse-artwork] You and your skills?
G'day folks, as a bit of a noobie to the project, I'm still finding out "who's who in the zoo" as the saying goes. So I was wondering, who is active in Artwork right now? I have a degree in Fine Art and as you know, that is NOT Graphic Design - so my skills are of fairly limited use to the project. I'm good at realist and expressive artwork in traditional mediums. My main area of contribution is writing and text. As part of the Marketing team, I'd like to work closely with artists so that our ideas are evolved in co-operation so that words and images work well together. cheers, Helen -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+help@opensuse.org

it's very often better to work on paper or real stone and to scan or photograph than to directly use any computer application :-) I'm a (retired) teache in mechanical engeenering and photographer, but very loose as soon as "art" is involved :-)) jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://pizzanetti.fr -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+help@opensuse.org
Hello Helen, I'm (rlihm) the webdesigner from the boosters team. So if you have any questions ping me any time on IRC or via mail (rlihm@opensuse.org). The only thing is, that I'm going to be on parental leave (means offline) in february and march. How ever, feel free to ask, suggest and contribute. Maybe I find some time to check my mails and answer your questions :-) Cheers, Robert On 25.01.2011, at 00:11, Helen wrote:

I do the yast oxygen icons. Only qualifications are a very strong dislike of Tango icons and the ability to "steal" free/libre stuff. I guess the artwork team is in a bit of a mess right now, because a) 11.4 is the first release where no dedicated Novell/SUSE employee is handling business and b) because of recent unfortunate events surrounding a leading artwork volunteer. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+help@opensuse.org
Hi all.
So I was wondering, who is active in Artwork right now?
I do the yast oxygen icons. Only qualifications are a very strong dislike of Tango icons and the ability to "steal" free/libre stuff.
My name is Marcus Moeller and I already did a lot of distro artwork. My latest additions where to the upcoming CentOS 6 design. Within openSUSE I have designed the Bento Icons for the Wiki (and I am a big fan of the Tango suite as well :)) Kind Regards Marcus -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+help@opensuse.org
Thanks for your responses everyone! Hopefully I can to get to know everyone better. I must say, aesthetics was one of the things that attracted me to openSUSE - elegant without being flashy. I really liked the look and feel of the distribution. So nice work :) Are you all on the Marketing list also? It does generate quite a lot of email, maybe it's possible to join and have messages directed to a separate folder. (I'm trying to figure out how to manage my mail better right now....) We have a couple of branding conversations going on, JDD has commented in them, and it would be nice to have the opinion of others from the art team too. I'm always wary of crossposting to both lists as it gets a bit confusing. I think too often someone comes up with an idea and then says to the artist "oh we want this".... but when artists are involved at an earlier stage of discussion, you know what you can do and what you can make work, concepts that have a good basis in design. With the Marketing Hackfest coming up we are going to be doing a lot of work on promotional material for 11.4, as well as the OBS, so your input right now will be really important, so we keep that beautiful openSUSE aesthetic happening through our marketing efforts too. cheers Helen -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+help@opensuse.org

I'm one of the clients. Although I did do a few icons back in the day. I need regular doses of artwork to keep openSUSE and its KDE desktop fresh. I'm helping a little bit here and there. I have contributed some business cards and t-shirt designs, wallpapers (photos) and icons. My graphic design skills are limited. I see that Inkscape has a lot of potential but a pencil is a pencil ;-) I also like photography. BTW, these days we're integrating the 11.4 artwork. As always, feedback is welcome!
