Re: [opensuse-artwork] openSUSE-12.1 wallpaper
Okay when I said my last submissions were to be my last submissions, I lied - even though voting is in full swing I'm still tweaking my designed based on the great discussions flying around here Still based on my core design, I've been experimenting with blues and whites like azul4 The result is http://www.sysrich.co.uk/121wallpaper/draft13.png http://www.sysrich.co.uk/121wallpaper/draft13.svg I think this could be a really nice option for a wallpaper, with maybe a dark green background with white grass/geeko or light green background with black grass/geeko for bootsplash Richard / Ilmehtar

I personally wouldn't use a completly different design for installation/boot and desktop.
Can I know why? It's not a problem to OSX and windows.
A common design offers a consistent user experience.
What I could imagine, is a e.g. gray version of the wallpaper elements for install/boot and a colored version for the desktop. Color changes from e.g. green to blue are a bit strange.
Another option would be to remove most of the graphical elements from the installer (as anaconda did in the latest releases) and simplify it to e.g. just the logo on gray background.
Same goes for bootsplash.
Here is an example, to outline what I mean:

combined with:
http://www.marcusmoeller.ch/share/oS/12_1/concepts/Wallpaper_openSUSE_dar
k.jpg
might work. Similar elements are used. Nice color changes.
I agree. A total style break is not good. May we could use the azul4-wallpaper [1] in green for the boot-stuff and the blue one as default wallpaper?
What do you think?
Btw. the logo should IMHO be smaller and e.g. transparent. It's to prominent.
Yes, make it a blue tone from the existing palette, the white is too in your face to work with daily. Well, testing team and marketing team wanted the last milestone be named beta to highlight it's different. Keeping the old artwork worked for the old milestones, but it's no option for the beta. Why is it so important to you? It's just a Beta. Having a community based artwork in a beta-version is IMO much better then a photo I made ages ago. As it turned out, it doesn't matter - the rc6 kernel freezes when you use animations, so we need to use something simple for now anyway. Greetings, Stephan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+help@opensuse.org

And that's the reaseon why I do not understand why the images for the Beta have been choosen before the poll and noone ever told us before that they are needed so urgent. Let's not put added pressure on the artwork team on this. We did ask during the Artwork BoF to have some artwork ready, the main focus of this discussion is to get something usable so the beta itself is ready to be published. Part of the beta delay is because of lack of artwork. Getting the Beta ready is the top priority now. Whatever changes exist between beta and final release, we're marketers and we can handle the "explain why" part. Richard Brown has come up with some great backgrounds yesterday that can be used for slide presentations and he'll convert them to templates after this frenzy period, so I feel comfortable with where things are right now and can wait a few days until Richard is ready to convert them to slide templates for us. In the meantime, it's exciting to see you all collaborate and I think you are all doing a great job. Thanks to all! by the way, I installed a factory version today, changing the repos on an old install and making a zypper dup. I got a blu screen with water drops, is that the new background not bad), or some remain of the old lxde install I had? thanks jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://www.youtube.com/user/jdddodinorg http://jdd.blip.tv/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+help@opensuse.org

made the same update on an other computer. Seems the blue glass with water droplets is the new (beta) bootsplash. I would love it if we could add some sort of zig-zag on it to look like a broken glass (it looks really like, after the rain, look a window :-)) jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xgxog7_clip-l-ombre-et-la-lumiere-3-bad-pig... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGgv_ZFtV14 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+help@opensuse.org

I would create a simple white geeko head on black background, maybe with the opensuse logo below. This could be re-used on upcoming releases and is not tied to a specific color.
