[opensuse-artwork] Introduction rule
Hi all. I would like to ask for something like a introduction rule for this list. This would mean, if you are new to opensuse-artwork, please describe your background, your skills, what you have done so far in form of art or theming/packaging. This would make it easier for us to welcome new contributors. And just to repeat, this list is not meant for everyone stating his/her personal taste or commenting on random threads. We have work that needs to be done and need YOUR help to do so. If it's okay for everyone, I would add these rules to the wiki. I would also make the start and write down a few notes about myself, even if I am a long term contributor. I like this idea. Maybe can have our new members use CONNECT (we don't use that tool enough IMHO) or send an introduction email to the ML. Let's remember too that in openSUSE there is no real requirements for membership, so even if our new members do not know much about tools and workflow, they are still welcome to help and learn. I agree with Andy that CONNECT is the resource for everyone to lay out their "about me" info as well as the user profiles such as mine here: https://connect.opensuse.org/pg/profile/roguehorse https://en.opensuse.org/User:Roguehorse https://forums.opensuse.org/members/roguehorse.html There is plenty of places for people to build a user portfolio. I don't know that the mailing list is really the proper place for such things aside from those running for office or something like that. Then a short bio is appropriate. Otherwise don't we run the risk of the mailing lists becoming sort of a chat room rather than information sharing? I also agree that CONNECT isn't being used to its full potential, but that is up to the user community. On Thu, Jan 17, 2013 at 7:27 AM, Andres Silva <anditosan1000@gmail.com> wrote:

I don't think so. Of course you can add a bio to connect. That's what I had for a while, and I guess I was the first one. But I have removed it recently, as I cannot see a benefit in that (at least till now). It's about introducing yourself and sharing your ideas on how you can help HERE. So that's not about chatting but letting ppl know who you are, what your skills are and what areas you are planning to contribute to. You can also line out aspects where you need some help. The work that has to be done is not the only reason for this mail list, just as any other communication channel within openSUSE. The other is to be place for contributors with various amounts of time and experience to come and see how they can help. You choose what topics and threads you want to answer and there will be no distraction to your work, but new people will have a chance to come and seek answer to question - where to help.

It is ok, to introduce yourself, but it can not be a condition that will prevent people from appearing here; otherwise we will run out about everyone that is new to open source and leans toward privacy, as advised at many places on the web. In other words, don't rush to put that in the wiki. There is plenty of time after artwork is in the Factory. (BTW, has anyone time to check what is done and what has to be done. I lost count, and Github is not cooperating with artwork related stuff.) -- Regards, Rajko. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+owner@opensuse.org
