[opensuse-artwork] Improving the default wallpaper
Dear OpenSUSE artwork members, At our last IRC gathering we have chosen a new default wallpaper for the next release of the OS, and I took on a task of preparing it for the release. I took a shot at it and I think it's looking a little better. Now there aren't that many changes done, but for what I did here is an account with explanations: a) the overall color tone was adjusted - the original had a nice "old photo" look to it due to slightly washed palette used; very nice touch in itself, but I'm not sure we want a brand new release to look somewhat "washed" b) texture was added to compensate for Inkscape gradient deficiency (Inkscape can not do perfect gradients, using step algorithm instead) c) the shapes were smoothed out - purely cosmetic touch to make them look even more lightray-like There may be a few more tweaks I'll put on this, or Andy may come with an idea to make it even better. Please let me know what you think. Best Regards, Eugene Trounev [it-s]

Is there any progress on that? If we want to get the improved version into 12.2, we should start pushing it to git. Greets Marcus -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+owner@opensuse.org

As you might have seen, M3 still contains the original artwork. The initial modifications done by Eugene are now in git, but still a lot of work needs to be done (Splash screens, etc.) Also afaik plymouth will be used instead of bootsplash in 12.2, so we need to prepare a theme for that, too. How should we procede? Greets Marcus -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+owner@opensuse.org

For plymouth it's quite easy, take one reasonable sized picture, and plymouth will adapt Inside tittiatcoke repo (devel for plymouth) we already have a kind of branding. I will check what can I do with that and work with him to get the package quickly ready for submitting. But the bad news is, plymouth or not plymouth as default nobody knows from what I've seen so we should also prepare the bootsplash theme as backup plan, and for those who will want to keep it. Eugene, there's kdm and ksplash to be done. We should also make a reflexion about getting a image for grub2. Quite easy but it can't be stored at any other place than /boot (cause / could be encrypted and then don't let grub to pick a picture in /usr ...) Again tittiatcoke has already something packaged to make grub2 look better, pick the right resolution and push a wallpaper in background. 1,2,3 paint! -- Bruno Friedmann Ioda-Net Sàrl www.ioda-net.ch openSUSE Member & Ambassador GPG KEY : D5C9B751C4653227 irc: tigerfoot -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+owner@opensuse.org

Marcus, I'm not sure the available svg in -art are the latest that Eugene what to publish. There's dated from the 4th April, and I've some discussion with it-s on irc, where he told me that he want to improve them ... I am also not fully satisfied with them. What where your complaints suggestions? Maybe I could help out. Greets Marcus -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+owner@opensuse.org
I think we need to have a small meet up exclusively to discuss what we want to do, what has been done, and what needs to be done still. How about some time these weekend? Anyone? On 2012-04-13, at 3:15 PM, Marcus Moeller wrote:
