[opensuse-artwork] conference artwork
Heya folks, For oSC 2012 we need some of your creativity... List of things: - We already have a nice website/blog banner (although a few more sizes would be nice) - count down graphic!!! - t-shirt design which works for all 4 confs (LD/Gentoo/oS/S) - a t-shirt variation for the organizing team with something like "how can this Tux help you" or "Ask me about Penguins!" or so (funny = bonuspoints) - design for on a conference bag (also cross-conference pls) - a cool cross-conference logo in b/w and/or 2-3 colors which can go on a conference beer mug. As designer you get a beer mug and a conference team t-shirt, even if you even if you can't make it to the conf. Even if you live in the Himalaya's and I have to fly it to you myself :D (and if money is why you can't make it to oSC, maybe we can do something about that. But that goes for all of you, t-shirt or not. Talk to me or ask the travel support team) Thanks a lot in advance and hugs soon, Jos

Oh, I forgot, deadline for most of this is like 2 weeks from now. We need at least 2 weeks to produce it and the conf is the 20th next month, so...

Hi Jos, Although I don't have the time to take on many of these tasks, I would like help where/when possible. Comments inline: On Sep 24, 2012, at 8:17 PM, Jos Poortvliet wrote:

Can you point me/us to more info about the event? I realize that all the "insiders" know but googling for "oSC 2012" returned nothing of use. It might seem trivial but I think that it would help anyone working on the design to get some background info on where/when/what. If there are no "good" links online perhaps a short explanation?

Naturally, we will need sizes/format/printer info on each of the above. I realize that, most likely, not everything is set in stone but when it comes to printing t-shirts and banners it is best to know the details in advance.

Which github repo do you mean?
The artwork one? Under conference - oSC 2012 -> beer mug. https://github.com/openSUSE/artwork/tree/master/conference/2012-oS- Conference/MUG%20beer :D

conference.opensuse.org should give you all you need...

We have no idea if we will have physical banners (with banner I meant the stuff on websites) but a SVG design is usually relatively easy to adapt. The t-shirts - well, we're open for anything. Of course sizes should be all (from small to XXL) - and having girly shirts is a good idea, too...

I sent a reply yesterday via phone, but of course forgot that the ML's don't accept messages from my phone. So here it is again. My suggestion is to make a t-shirt with the front saying "The Geeko Squad" and perhaps on the back show the Geeko Tail with the phrase "The Tail Knows." Yes, I know, printing on both sides = more money but... You're not creating a HUGE amount of t-shirts here, so maybe its not too bad on your budget. While not incredibly hilarious, I think it makes for a useful re-usable t-shirt that staffers would wear proudly for future events. It can also be a great Ambassador t-shirt to use at conferences where we have a booth. I'm wondering - Mug1.svg with the openSUSE conf logo is too oS specific but maybe we can replace the geeko with a Tux! Then it would be a VERY good logo for on a beer mug...
That's in the mug3.svg And let's see what about Geeko Squad PS: Tux+mug= Mux beer ??? XD -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+owner@opensuse.org

I think the tux+mug is supercool, and I'll go for that. Awesomely thanks, you're on the list of receiving one now :D I saw you guys (bryen and victor) working on the t-shirt yesterday , really cool results, only downside - not everyone there is a geeko ;-) Like with the mug, we've got people volunteering for LinuxDays and while we should sell some kind of openSUSE shirts there, the staff probably should have a more generic shirt. BUT if you don't have time to come up with another design, well, we are paying for the shirts so they'll just have to wear them :D See if you can/want to come up with something else, if not - ok, we go for this. Thanks! /Jos

Obviously, as you mention, I was only thinking under the context of openSUSE. I haven't followed too much about the discussions regarding the overall event. So, at this point, I haven't captured the conceptual spirit indepth yet that would support a more generic design. I think the Geeko Squad t-shirt has usability beyond oSC, as I think these would make for GREAT ambassador shirts to wear at openSUSE booths. While that's another set of logistical challenges (size + distribution), feel free to take the concept out of Conference and put it into Ambassador material if funding permits. Back to oSC... while you mention it should be more generic, how closely will staff collaborate together? What types of assistance do you see people needing? Someone *might* want to seek out a staff person directly related to x-project. So maybe shirts that are distinctive to their projects, but also have a common unique identifier on it indicating they are staffers? Say, for example, openSUSE staffers get shirt with openSUSE logo plus "STAFF" on it. Gentoo staffers get shirt with Gentoo logo plus "STAFF" on it, etc.? I know, I know, more printing and cost overhead nightmares. But at the same time, I think we have to be very careful not to turn the event generally into such a non-descript way that each particular project doesn't stand out on its own. Seems openSUSE is the main investor of this event and yet, we don't want our visibility to be tempered down, do we? Here's a mockup (no I'm not an artist, you'll have to clean it up! LOL) combining a modification of itxshell's handmade t-shirt design and Victor's phrase that we were discussing on IRC yesterday. http://paste.opensuse.org/42685438 Bryen -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+owner@opensuse.org
