Hi all, Note that we(I) did create CD covers. The original file was unfortunately an InDesign file. Ideally we would keep all of these bits together and create them using inkscape or scribus. Then anyone could take the original and update it when needed or make it fit into another format. Bryen makes a good point about creating a colour version as well as a greyscale (or limited colour version). Hi,
There's a guy who created inlays for Jewel cases: http://www.opensuse-lernen.de/?p=5234 He does not seem to be involved in the official openSUSE artwork activities. The idea is nice though IMO. Maybe someone could contact him and try to create something that matches the official 12.2 theme?
Since we can't really ship small quantities of DVDs to small install parties people have to burn DVDs themselves there. So having a nice and easy way to print covers might compensate for the lack of official media on such events.
On youtube I even found instructions for a really simple do-it-yourself CD-Cover. All you need is a sheet of A4 paper: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVm2irZGhCY That one with openSUSE artwork would be even cheaper than a Jewel case.

It used to be fairly standard that the community would develop CD labels for each release. This is one more thing that needs to be added to a checklist for future releases so we don't miss it again. I did remind the artwork team a few times lately about it, but no one grabbed it in time.
It would still be useful to create even now after release, as many Ambassadors relied on these labels in the past. Espcially the ability to modify an SVG to their native language.
I would suggest two versions. One color-intensive and one not-so-color intensive (or b/w friendly.) The latter reason being that color printing even at home can be expensive in any reasonable quantity.
