[opensuse-arm] Open SuSE on Beagleboard X15
I have Funtoo, Gentoo, Arch Linux, Fedora, SuSE and Slackware working on a few arm boards. I am looking to get SuSE Linux to work on the Beagleboard X15. My plan is to have a spin like Fedora calls them. OpenSuSE Kiwi first sounded like a good starting point but as I read thru the page it appears to only support PCs and laptops. The way I worked things out in the past with the beagle board X15 and beaglebone was to start with a minimal system with my own u-boot and kernel. For my Open SuSE spin I would have my own repository for what is not supported on OpenSuSE. It doesn’t appear like anyone is working on that, so far I only saw work done on that by digi-key on debian. Hi, I think Matwey (in CC) played with openSUSE on Beagle x15. He will probably be able to help you. Cheers, Guillaume ----- Michel Catudal <michelcatudal@gmail.com> a écrit :

I have a Rev A and a Rev C Beagleboard X15. I do have access to a Rev B1 that I can test on. I have one with Funtoo running with a 2TB hard disk on ESata. I use a modified version of the IMX 2D Vivante GPU driver for xorg. For SuSE I would like to use wayland instead. Ti has good EGL support and other video. I plan on using the DSP, Cortex M4 and PRUS for some device drivers. I heard that wayland support is now available on SuSE. My plan is to. have no xorg whatsoever. As you may know most manufacturers have no support and no plan to ever support xorg for their GPUs. TI started one a couple years ago and dropped it. This means that wayland and eglfs are basically the only options for good graphic support on Linux arm or mips. The gstreamer-bad on SuSE will have to be replaced with the one from TI. I like the way SuSE has arranged things for those. I can block any official packages from installing and bricking the board. On Arch Linux, Fedora or Ubuntu an accidental update can often brick the board. All board specific openSUSE images are built with kiwi, so it is definitely supported. Typically, the images are built in different flavors, e.g. JeOS (Just enough OS), XFCE, LXQT, KDE, ... Have a look at the "JeOS" project in the OBS. For the predecessor, Beagleboard xM, there is an image, see https:// en.opensuse.org/HCL:BeagleBoard-xM Kind regards, Stefan -- Stefan Brüns / Bergstraße 21 / 52062 Aachen home: +49 241 53809034 mobile: +49 151 50412019
