Of course I'm using SSH, so I don't see the HDMI output.
So the question here is how does the patch kill the use of the HDMI.
It does not. As I said before, current factory kernel has a broken DVI output. Guillaume
Is there some clever way for me to see if the keyboard is being received by the SBC. [I'm going to use SBC from now on to save me from typing out Beagleboard XM.]
My setup uses a KVM, so I can easily push the button to use the keyboard or mouse for that matter on the SBC rather than using SSH via "terraterm". [I have opensuse on a notebook, but not on the KVM. My desktop linux motherboard blew out the power supply caps.]

I am a bit confused here. When you run the XFCE image for opensuse 12.2 arm, you do have use of the HDMI port. It is only after the usb hub patch that you lose HDMI and I presume the use of the keyboard and mouse. (Kind of hard to tell without a video display. ;-) ) To recap, after the usb hub patch you still have use of the Beagleboard XM via the ethernet and SSH and SFTP. Just no HDMI. Now perhaps the JEOS kernel doesn't have HDMI. -----Original Message----- From: Guillaume Gardet <guillaume.gardet@free.fr> Date: Wed, 06 Mar 2013 10:58:20 To: gary<lists@lazygranch.com> Reply-To: guillaume.gardet@free.fr Cc: Alexander Graf<agraf@suse.de>; openSUSE ARM ML<opensuse-arm@opensuse.org> Subject: Re: [opensuse-arm] Beagleboard XM freezes; suspect USB issue Le 06/03/2013 10:53, gary a crit :

It is not a matter of JeOS vs XFCE, but 12.2 vs Factory kernel versions. Alex give you a 3.7.* kernel, whereas 12.2 kernel is 3.4.6. So, HDMI problem is related to kernel version, not your patch. ;) Guillaume

If it is not fixed before 12.3 release, I am afraid this bug will be there. Guillaume

Well I can't see a broken release being much use. I don't know who here is factory and who is community, but I'm assuming someone who understands the system will submit the bug report. Not all Beagleboard XMs are as bad as the one I have. The patch fixes the USB problem to my satisfation. If everyone (as in the decision makers) is satisfied with that, then just incorporate the patch. However, I'm eventually going to use my board as a controller and can't be testing software on it. If someone from Suse wants to swap boards just to have a "problem" board at hand, let me know sooner than later. The author of the patch had to do a such as swap to develop the patch. For a while it was thought that the problem was insufficient bypass capacitance until Texas Instruments admitted the chip problem. -----Original Message----- From: Guillaume Gardet <guillaume.gardet@free.fr> Date: Wed, 06 Mar 2013 11:46:50 To: <lists@lazygranch.com> Reply-To: guillaume.gardet@free.fr Cc: Alexander Graf<agraf@suse.de>; openSUSE ARM ML<opensuse-arm@opensuse.org> Subject: Re: [opensuse-arm] Beagleboard XM freezes; suspect USB issue Le 06/03/2013 11:44, lists@lazygranch.com a crit :

Since you already verified that the fix does indeed fix the problem at hand, I think we can just add it to the source tree. Alex -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-arm+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-arm+owner@opensuse.org
