The boot process is in an endless loop now. Is this a factory problem or is "zypper up" the wrong way?
It seems you are still in u-boot, not yet in kernel. Isn't it? I think u-boot do not find any file to boot on your SD card (or USB stick?) and then try a network boot. You should not use "zypper up" because you must avoid to update the kernel and initrd since u-boot start-up script is not updated (it is the case for BB xM so it may be the same for pandaboard ES). We are missing an update script.
There is also a similar thread for the Beagleboard xM (http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-arm/2012-04/msg00006.html). Maybe it's the same issue...
I think you are still in u-boot so I don't think it is the same problem since the beagleboard xM boots the kernel fine but you have no USB and no Ethernet once booted.
