Any (preferably supported ;-) ARM board with 8GB RAM or more?
Hi, are there, apart from the (hard to get) raspberry pi4, any ARM boards that have 8GB of RAM or more? Bonus points if they are supported out of the box by openSUSE ;-) I'm trying to get the packman build times for ARM down so it actually finishes and allows the repos to get published, and beefier hardware could help with that. have fun, seife -- Stefan Seyfried "For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for nature cannot be fooled." -- Richard Feynman

It depends how much you want to spent. 😉 Any max budget? With 8 GB there is not much SBC (Single-board Computer). You start to move to desktop/server things which are more expensive. Guillaume

Yes, I thought about that, too.

Seeing that I can still find raspberry pi4 with 8GB for around 160€ right now, so I'd say the reasonable upper limit will be around 250€ for a board with 8GB, gigabit ethernet and native storage (SATA or NVME) on board.

A quick search on ebay only returned some old HP moonshot blades which probably need a blade frame in addition and they were >1000€. Also, power consumption will probably be an issue for those. So I'll get on those "notify when in stock" lists of all the raspberry pi resellers in germany and hope I get one or two rpi4-8GB's once they become available again :-) The raspi400 is doing great as a obsworker, but its memory is too small for some of the packages, so at least one "big box" would be nice. Hi, I did not find any openSUSE supported boards but here are some 8GB ones: QUARTZ64 (~$80): https://pine64.com/product/quartz64-model-a-8gb-single-board-computer/ ROC-RK3566-PC (~$150): https://en.t-firefly.com/product/industry/rocrk3566pc.html ROCK 3A (~$100): https://wiki.radxa.com/Rock3/3a NVIDIA Jetson Xavier NX (~$500): https://developer.nvidia.com/embedded/jetson-xavier-nx-devkit With one of these boards and the willingness to debug we can attempt to create an image. SBCs with 8GB or more you start to go into x86 boards with Intel Atom/Celeron processors, such as Latte Panda ones. These three are interesting, especially the rock 3a which is readily available. The ROC-PC is only available in 2 and 4GB versions right now.
NVIDIA Jetson Xavier NX (~$500): https://developer.nvidia.com/embedded/jetson-xavier-nx-devkit
This is a little bit too pricey, I can get 3 raspi4-8GB for that amount and they will probably outperform it as obsworkers ;-)

Right now I'm still trying to get a raspberry pi4 8GB, simply because it is already well supported, but if this is not possible soon, then I'll probably try the Rock 3a. For the use as OBS worker, it would also probably not matter much, if it only runs debian or some downstream distribution out of the box.
