Hi Raymond,
We are discussing this sr: https://build.opensuse.org/package/rdiff/Base:System/branding-openSUSE?linkr ev=base&rev=116
and purpose to require plymouth-plugin-label package here.
Wow, that is an request from more than 2 years ago and this was the first plymouth theme for openSUSE.
The reason for having the label plugin back then, was to show text on the plymouth screen in order to ask for the password to unlock LUKS/encrypted devices. Without the plugin, the text would not show and the password would be asked behind the graphical screen. This would lead to the believe that plymouth wasn't asking for a password and that it was just hanging.
This makes sense.
If in the current setup this plugin is still required, I do not know as that I only created the first plymouth theme and that was then taken over by the artwork team. Also there quite some bugs about the unlocking of the encrypted devices with plymouth and it could be that for those systems you no longer have a graphical boot screen.
The people who maintain the branding (artwork team) should indicate if they are utilizing the functionality to show text on the plymouth screen or not. If not, then the label plugin can be removed from here.
But, could you please check whether label is still used? I suppose it is inside the following file: https://github.com/openSUSE/branding/blob/13.2/boot/plymouth/theme/openSUSE.... I am not quite familiar with the plymouth stuff, so I am mostly grepping over there. label.so is not also mentioned in /usr/lib/dracut/modules.d/50plymouth -- With best regards, Matwey V.
