Hi Hans, Sorry for the late reply. I only recently returned from vacation. On 27.05.2013, at 11:29, <J.Witvliet@mindef.nl> wrote:

You complained about no browser and no email client in your Xfce Internet menu. I am telling you as an Xfce arm user, both are installable (and then show up there) if you actually look for them.
We actually don't have a build of Firefox in the 12.3 repository. I think Dirk did fix it to compile in the openSUSE:12.3:Ports repository, but then it still never finished building because it runs out of memory on our build nodes. So yes, there is currently no firefox available on 12.3. Hence you don't see it in the menu :). IIRC the XFCE image usually ships with it. However, you can install konqueror. Or you could try and install firefox from the 12.2 repository.
The Xfce images are just as minimal as the JeOS images in that they do not contain the whole contents of an openSUSE x86 .iso image. Sorry if that hint on how to resolve the issue you complained about offends you.

-----Original Message----- Hi Andreas,
I followed the instructions from: https://en.opensuse.org/HCL:ARMChromebook And at point 4) Download the latest image at http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/devel:/ARM:/12.3:/Contrib:/Chromeb... and choose between:
JeOS image (1GB) for a minimal system openSUSE-12.3-ARM-JeOS-chromebook-*.raw.xz or XFCE image (4GB) for a graphical system openSUSE-12.3-ARM-XFCE-chromebook-*.raw.xz I opted for the graphical image.
Everyone who has been using suselinux, openSUSE, sles or sled knows how to install things. That's beside the point.
If you opt for the "just enough" image, it's obvious that it is indeed just enough to install whatever you need/like. I just wanted to express my surprise that the "graphical system openSUSE-12.3-ARM-XFCE-chromebook-*.raw.xz" does include gimp and a softphone, while missing more essential parts. Could very well be a well thought of decision, no problems with that.
Perhaps I was mislead by "XFCE image 4GB" and it might be wiser to rename it to: "Just enough X" When examining the size of the image (497MB), obviously not everything fits is there, though the name suggest a sort of "live arm image", just like the general openSUSE live (iso) images.... So absolutely no problem with that.
Actually, what did worry me, was the amount of time needed to startup... At one point I feared that something was wrong with the image, despite the correct sha256 hash. Let me note that I transferred the image to an USB-stick, not a sd-disk. I don't expect something like the original OS, which is probably 200% tuned for turbo-startup. Any other experiences regarding chromebook startup time?
I think you're referring to the time the system spends in u-boot? For some reason (I haven't debugged that one down) downloading data from USB seems abysmally slow. If you instead use an SD card, it's as fast as you'd expect. Once you're through the u-boot phase the startup times should be ok, right?
