While I do not entirely believe this, we spoke about qemu-accel package here. And that has usually a big impact.
You mentioned a "qemu version update" within the last two days. Just saying, what's changing these last days in unrelated to qemu-linux-user package, it's about a new qemu-tools package and its permissions. If this were causing any rebuild problems, we could fix to some rev, but it appears we don't need to.
