It's the opposite - the less clever kiwi is the easier we can fix and change things in the uboot setup scripts :). One-offs really belong there.
I think it'd make sense to test whether the chromebook would be happy with a sync'ed MBR. Then we wouldn't bloat the number of combinations too heavily.

Unfortunately the Chromebook build is completely broken right now though, so it's hard to verify :). How about we just change it to always-synced and worst case fix it up to unsynced in the u-boot script?
