Hello, tried my first compilation (k3b 0.11.9) but configure failed. Here is an excerpt from config.log: configure:27355: checking for libXext configure:27390: gcc -o conftest -ansi -W -Wall -Wchar-subscripts -Wshadow -Wpointer-arith -Wmissing-prototypes -Wwrite-strings -D_XOPEN_SOURCE=500 -D_BSD_SOURCE -O2 -Wformat-security -Wmissing-format-attribute -L/usr/X11/lib conftest.c -lXext -lX11 >&5 /usr/lib64/gcc-lib/x86_64-suse-linux/3.3.1/../../../../x86_64-suse-linux/bin/ld: skipping incompatible /usr/X11/lib/libXext.so when searching for -lXext /usr/lib64/gcc-lib/x86_64-suse-linux/3.3.1/../../../../x86_64-suse-linux/bin/ld: skipping incompatible /usr/X11/lib/libXext.a when searching for -lXext /usr/lib64/gcc-lib/x86_64-suse-linux/3.3.1/../../../../x86_64-suse-linux/bin/ld: cannot find -lXext collect2: ld returned 1 exit status configure:27396: $? = 1 configure: failed program was: .............. configure:27428: result: no configure:27434: error: We need a working libXext to proceed. Since configure can't find it itself, we stop here assuming that make wouldn't find them either. Would an expert indicate the problem to me? The libXext- files are in the ../X11R6/ .... directories and .../X11 is linked to ../X11R6. PC AMD-64 3000+ Linux Suse 9.0 Thanks! Dieter Plass

This is wrong and indicates a broken package. It has to read "-L/usr/X11/lib64". Ciao, Michael.
Hi, Michael, are you saying the k3b-Package is broken? Would it help either to unzip the package again or to download and unzip it again or is some other package broken? Ciao Dieter

What I was trying to say is that the k3b version that you used lacks support for recognizing /lib64 systems (of which amd64 is one) correctly during configure. For KDE we have a KDE wide configure mechanism. _If_ k3b happens to use this (which I think it does) then please use the "--enable-libsuffix=64" argument to configure. It should then look into directories like /use/X11R6/lib64 . Ciao, Michael.
