Hey, Guys. Just picked up a new KVM switching box, and was setting it up. It runs between my Suse 9.1 64bit system and an old WINXP box. (Reference to "connected" from her out refers to being through the KVM switch, unless otherwise stated) For some reason when the mouse is connected to the XP box it works fine, but when switching to the linux system it becomes scrambled and hectic. It will move only slightly from the corner of the screen before it jumps back. Movement is glitchy/jumpy. It continues to pull up windows and menus as if a button was being held or repetedly pressed. I currently use an logitech optical usb mouse with a usb to PS2 converter, but have tried switching out with an old ball mouse. The mouse does not glitch when plugged in directly to the Linux system, nor when plugged via KVM to other systems. Have tried: rebooting after connecting the mouse to the KVM; switching the connectors of port A and B (To assure one portside is not messed up electronicly); checking the drivers for the mouse (they seem to be the right ones); and switching mice. Out of ideas, and no luck in any of my attempts. Could use, and always appreciate the help, Leif _________________________________________________________________ Best Restaurant Giveaway Ever! Add psmouse.proto=bare in the kernel command line in /boot/grub/menu.lst and reboot. -Andi
I don't have the problem being discussed. I am curious though what this setting does and why. Could you elaborate? B-) On Friday 28 May 2004 08:28 am, Andi Kleen wrote:

Thanks Andi. Looking up "psmouse.proto=bare" with Google gave me this link that may solve quite a few mouse pbms with KVMs (will try it tonight). http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-test-list/2004-February/msg00739.html Also double posting to suse-linux-e as it may help others ;) -- Frederic Soulier <frederic@wallaby.uklinux.net>

I have the same problem with my KVM. I believe it's a generic pbm with kernel 2.6.x. It's not specific to AMD64. I have 2 PCs plugged to my KVM. What I do is: - boot SuSE 9.1 1) When KDM is displayed I switch to the other PC (it needs to be switched on) then I switch back to SuSE 9.1 or 2) When KDM is displayed I unplugged the mouse from the KVM and plugged it again For me 1) (more convenient) or 2) works all the time. Having said that it's a pain in the butt... Note: I had the same pbm with Mandrake 10.0 and I believe FC2 has this pbm as well. Knoppix3.4 (10/05/2004) does not seem to have the pbm though. -- Frederic Soulier <frederic@wallaby.uklinux.net>

Known problem with Xfree and KVM. Ctrl-Alt-F1 followed by Alt-F7 immediately after switching to the linux box have always solved the problem for me.
