-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi I am about to buy an AMD64 system. Are there any suggestions what to buy or what not to buy. I thought about a Asrock K8S8X motherboard with an IDE disk and radeon 9200 or geforce 5200 graphic card. Later on I also plan to use the onboard Sata raid. Does the board run with linux? How about sound, lan and usb interfaces? For what it's worth, I would stick with nVidia for video card(s). If your planning on purchasing an IDE, why not just get the sata to start with? I run Gigabyte board myself with nvidia sound on-board and AGP nVidia FX card. B-) On Monday 17 May 2004 01:44 pm, Torsten Foertsch wrote:

I don't know, if DRI drivers are good enough for him, then he would get much better 32bit compatibility with the radeon, for the time being, at least, until ATI coughs up an amd64 version of their drivers. Myself I can't say I'm very satisfied with the stability of nvidia's drivers, either, so it's not always that easy of a choice(I ended up switching FX5200 and Radeon 9000 a couple of times before settling on the Radeon :)

has anybody used 9.1 on a Penguin Computing Altus 3200 (Dual Opteron)? Any issues? On Mon, 2004-05-17 at 22:11, Sergei Klink wrote:

I am running with the following configuration and it works fantastic. Tyan Thunder K8W motherboard. Dual Opterons. 1 GB Memory. Nvidia GeForce 5700 FX (i always choose Nvidia because of great Linux driver support) U320 single channel pci-x 64bit SCSI single channel controller card. Seagate Cheetah U320 15k rpm 36.7 GB hard drive I had thought about sata, but decided to spend some extra money for the SCSI, it's faster, (I know, not incredibly faster) than SATA, but it has better driver support by far, and much better longevity by far. You know, designed to be pounded on with multiple read writes 24/7. I figured it was one less thing to worry about. Nothing against radeons or ATI, but I have not heard many good things about Linux support on these cards? Maybe they are better supported now. Well, that's my 2 cents :-) On Monday 17 May 2004 2:44 pm, Torsten Foertsch wrote:
