usb mouse doesn't work
Hi folks: Just bought an HP zv5460us (Athlon64 2GHz) to replace a laptop that died last week. Everything works, including the USB ports (this was by far the easiest install of SuSE9.2 I have ever done). What doesn't work is the usb mouse. I used several USB mice that I know work (on this and other systems in some-other-os), and they all fail to be detected. What I also noticed is that there is no usbmouse.ko kernel module to insert. I tested the USB by using my USB memory stick, and I can read/write to it, mount and unmount it. It is detected on insertion, and it automounts properly. usbview sees the memory stick, but not the mouse, regardless of which USB ports they are plugged into. Rebooting the unit into windows, and the mouse (all of the USB mice) do work. This is SuSE 9.2 pro, AMD64 balto:~ # uname -a Linux balto 2.6.8-24.11-default #1 Fri Jan 14 13:01:26 UTC 2005 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux I can provide lspci and other output as well. It seems though that since there is no usbmouse.ko, that the usbmouse will not be recognized. Is this correct? Or is the mouse in another kernel module? If I need usbmouse.ko, are there instructions for rebuilding the SuSE kernel to enable me to compile a new module (just basically that one)? Thanks in advance! Joe
