Re: [suse-amd64] 9.2 and YOU - seems to be broken here
Thank-you, Eugene, Martin, Sid. I will try that driver. Am having the same problems however with a simple vanilla ATA --- no SCSI. Martin, have used both Reiser and EXT3. William, note that I did not install patches during the install. After the install, tried both automatic patch selection and manual (selecting just YaST and the kernel. It did install on the ATA system and reboot and complete, when I skipped the patch installation during the install. It ran sitting still all day. I loaded a bynch of monitoring tools, copied files from a CD, opened and saved in OOffice, rebooted warm and cold several times. But as soon as YOU started downloading patches, the freezes and reboots started atain The successful install was the defautlt partitioning, one swap and a 79GB << / >>. I am really clueless. This has happened both with the 6-bit and the 32 bit versions. Been using SuSE since 6.4 and this is the first major insoluable I have had. Am tending to believe with Sid that this 9.2 is alpha. Novell is trying to integrate, work SLES, develop the Novell Open Enterprise Server with SLES and Novell middleware, and put out the Novell Linux desktop for the enterprise customer. Maybe 9.2 is a "Fedora-like" alpha-beta hacker's version for Novell. If so, they are missing it. melissa Eugene Chu wrote:
I haven't install Suse 9.2 yet, but in all the other systems I installed in the past, the Adaptec 29160 uses the AIC7xxx driver, not the AIC79xx. How did it work with AIC79xx in your installtion?

And they should remove the pricetag ;-)
