Hello Andreas do you have any news or test results with your PCMCIA cards? Do you need other cards for testing ? Or is there any alternative AMD64-notebook for 64bit-Linux available in germany ? Best regards Wigbert
Hello Andreas,
is it possible for you to test the PCMCIA-Slots ? Any test results allready available ??
I like to use a PCMCIA-card for WLAN. I have two cards for WLAN, Artem Comcard-11 and Netgear WG511T. Both are working with 32bit SUSE-9.2 in my 11Mbit/s-WLAN and WEB128. The Artem Comcard-11 uses an orinoco chipset and the Netgear WG511T uses an atheros chipset.
Does the PCMCIA-Slot work with the SUSE-9.2-64bit-LiveCD ? How about Firewire and USB2 ? Any test results ? The AcerAspire1523WLMi has a 100GB harddisk, 1GB RAM, 1 DVD burner, Nvidia-graphic-chip, 4 * USB2 , 1 mini-Firewire-Port and 2 PCMCIA-Slots. The AMD64-3200+ is NOT a mobile version. ( 1399,-)
I'm using an Aspire 1520.
Is there any problem with compatibility for 64bit ?
Depends on the WLAN card.
Does Linux support the PCMCIA-Slot ?
Should - but I haven't tested it.

Hello Andreas
do you have any news or test results with your PCMCIA cards?
We tested on FSC Amilo A1630 and the result was: Not working: An obscure carbus-modemkarte, another obscure cardbus modem-network card. Those seem to have problems even in 32-bit systems. Sedlbauer Speed star isdn worked on i386 but had a problem on 64-bit. Fritz!Card PCMCIA V2 failed since the modul fc_pcmcia does not exist. The rest (some pcmcia and cardbus network and modem cards, Atheros-Wlan, ADMtek WLAN, misc WLAN) worked fine in our testing.
Do you need other cards for testing ?
Additional cards for testing that we can keep are always welcome ;-) Andreas -- Andreas Jaeger, aj@suse.de, http://www.suse.de/~aj SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, Maxfeldstr. 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany GPG fingerprint = 93A3 365E CE47 B889 DF7F FED1 389A 563C C272 A126

Hello Andreas, thank you very much for your report. I will send you a memory-PCMCIA-card for testing tomorrow. Do you also tested these cards in your Acer-AMD64-notebook ? Are the PCMCIA-chipsets of the different AMD64-notebooks all the same ? Best regards Wigbert
