I'm fixing to put together a system for suse linux to run on from the 64 amd cpu. I'm looking at asus, abit, gigabyte, an msi motherboards. asus K8V-SE Deluxe K8T800 or K8N-E DELUXE abit KV8PRO K8T800 Pro gigabyte GA-K8NSPRO msi MSI K8N NEO Platinum I will put in 1 gig of ram on any of these systems. I have used asus boards in the past but am willing to try another one this time around. These are the models that one of our parts sources has in stock at the moment. If there is another one out there that you would recommend I would look at it also. If you using one of these does all the on board components work, sound lan ect with suse. I will be putting suse 9.3 on the machine. thanks

abit KV8PRO K8T800 Pro
gigabyte GA-K8NSPRO
msi MSI K8N NEO Platinum Well I have this one (NEO2 platinum 54G) and at the start it was not fun at all but later an update DVD for 64bit was made available that cured the SATA issue: only the 2 first devices was available ... out of the four.
From what I've heard and read .... the Gigabyte card whould be one of the better ones YMMV. But hit the lists with a google on "suse list motherboard" then you'd get more views on that. www.linuxhardware.org isn't a bad place to look around either ;-) Johan

Hi I have an Asus A8V Deluxe and everything is working smoothly under SuSE 9.1 (x64) -SATA drives have been recognized immediatly (it was more a pain to get it work under Win2k :-) ) - Lan working OK (ADSL, didn"t try gigbait connection though) - USB and firewire working - Sound works great - Sensors are working (Temp: CPU and Mobo, Fan : CPU and Power supply, + Voltages) I don't know if there is better, but i am happy with it. I have same motherboard. (Love it) How do you get this info? Did you get WiFi to work? Thanks

Has the sk98lin bug been fixed in recent SL9.2 and SL93 kernels? -- The truth of a proposition has nothing to do with its credibility. And vice versa.
I have a Shuttle SN85G4v2 barebones which worked OKish with 9.1 and 9.2 if I booted with acpi=off. with 9.3 even this didn't work (it refused to boot) with acpi enabled, the system degraded to unusable in 2 days. I've given up on this board as being truly 64bit and gone back to 32bit 9.3 which works fine. I suspect the bios is dodgy.
I'm using a MSI Neo K8T FIS2R, it really sucked bigtime under SuSE 9.2 (64-bit).... After install of 9.3 (64-bit) everythingworks related to hardware works great!!! ....Yeah that is expect hotplugin as many have spoken of.... I really would choose a ASUS Mainboard again when I change next time, I'm a ASUS fan, don't know why I bougt MSI....but...the mainboard works now... //PDa Jack Malone wrote:
